Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart's Comic Book

The bandwidth for uploading audio is slow on my end, so I decided to write a different type of post to try it out.

Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart is running for reelection this year so he had someone draw a comic book to be used as campaign literature. Brent wrote all of the text. This comic book is being mailed out to people who live in Oklahoma county which is mostly Oklahoma City and its surrounding suburbs. The artwork is very similar to what is in those Jack Chick booklets. The comic book depicts Rinehart's struggles against the forces of evil such as liberal good ol' boys, Satan, and homosexuals. These evildoers are trying to stop the Republican Christian conservative hero from being reelected. The "Roads Scholar" Brent Rinehart displays his amazing grasp of English grammar and spelling.

A local news source obtains the reactions of other local politicians to the comic book. Brent's comic book also is covered in one of the national news outlets. I live in the county that is south of Oklahoma County, so I don't have a vote in the Oklahoma County Commissioner race. Nonetheless, this makes me glad that I don't have to cower in shame when someone asks me where I am from. Have I already mentioned that Oklahoma City now has a major league (National Basketball Association (NBA)) basketball team?

Pat Robertson - Teens' Question #6 (Music) [single track]

Lately, I've been busy that I hardly had any time to post an update to this blog much less to even rip and upload stuff. Not to worry, more posts may or may not show up during the next several days. Most of my time is spent finding employment.

However, I have a little time to update this blog. I'm sure most of my visitors know who Pat Robertson is, but just in case, refer to this site and this site. I could type out a long post on Pat, but I only have a little time as I already mentioned.

The subject of this post is a track from Pat Robertson. It is from a 2-tape set called Answers for Today's Parents and Teens that came out 15 to 20 years ago (my guess). One tape is a recording of a group of parents asking Pat advice on basically how to raise their children. The other tape is a group of teenagers asking Pat questions on topics from drinking to sex to spirituality. Pat dispenses his wisdom on both of those tapes and both parents and teens are left in awe of Pat's sagely advice. This particular track is from the tape with the teens' questions. The question is about music and Pat says that basically the music the kids are into glorify Satan, drugs and sex as well as blaspheming Jesus. Pat also gives an explanation of the term "rock 'n' roll".

This track to me is the most interesting from this 2-tape set. The rest didn't interest me enough to take the time to post them. If anyone is interested in the whole set, I'll see what I could do. Meanwhile, you too can learn what music is wrong.

I could sit all day and stare at that cover.

Oh, but I have a post to write. Willard Cantelon is another good moral man like W. Cleon Skousen who wants to save us all from the evils of LSD. Willard is not exactly a dynamic speaker (in other words, nowhere as exciting as the cover). He's not as much fun to listen to as say Jack Van Impe or Jimmy Swaggart, but the material in his lecture is more than interesting enough to keep one's attention even if it's from a Christian perspective. Although, I don't quite come away being scared out of my wits when Cantelon describes the gruesome details of the effects of LSD. I think that Van Impe would do a lot better job at that. Interestingly, I've noticed that snippets of this album appear on playlists on psychedelic music radio shows.

Ah, screw it, I'm done writing. I want to go back to looking at the cover. Anyone want to engage in a staring contest with the dude on the cover?

Instant Insanity Drugs was released on the Key Records label, the same label that released Tony Dolan's album, previously posted on this blog. I found out that Key Records was a rightwing outfit affiliated with the John Birsch Society when I did a little research on Skousen's background.

Skousen was an FBI agent before he fully delved into writing conservative commentary. He is known for the book The Naked Communist which is about the evils of communism and their diabolical plans to turn America's children into drugged up commies and immoral blasphemers or something like that. Skousen also served on the faculty at Brigham Young University and active in the Mormon Church of the Latter Day Saints. Skousen tries to educate about the dangers of illegal narcotics or "psychedelic drugs". The guy who wrote the liner notes, Vick Knight, Jr., an assistant superintendent in a school district in Orange County, California, claims that:

Skousen brilliantly unmasks the Timothy Learys among us, the Pied Pipers who tell our youngsters they can "turn on, tune in and drop out" by means of potent weeds and seeds and chemical compounds. He tells why there is no such thing as a "good trip".

Then Vick says this LP should be required listening for every student, parent, educator and law enforcement officer. If enough of us, through this medium, become aware of the potential chromosomal damage and long-lasting psychotic aftereffects of the mind-bending drugs, then perhaps Tommy Forrester, and countless others, will not have died in vain.

This blog started off with a message by Mr. Van Impe where he discussed what hell really is. This message is Van Impe's conversion story of how he once was an inhabitant of night clubs (because his father was a night club entertainer) to becoming a crusader for all that is good and holy including ranting against rock 'n' roll and naked women in movies. This record reveals how Van Impe became the man he is today.

Not only do women have to look good and be fashionably stylish, it would be nice if they have a beautiful voice to go with their fabulous good looks and fashionable style. Thank goodness this LP record came out. Released before feminism became prominent in the mainstream, perhaps the record helped the voices of Stepford wives and trophy girlfriends to sound just as appealing as their looks. The American woman is the most attractive female on Earth. The liner notes by Charles Kebbe say so, it must be true. However, Charles never says how American women are more attractive than women from all other countries or what prompted him to make this statement. It would be quite interesting to learn the reasoning behind his claim.
Charles worked for some advertising agency and he must have had a bevy of beautiful women to stare at. Unfortunately, for him, they did not sound as pleasant as they looked. So Charles wanted to do something about it. He opened a voice training workshop to coach women (and men) from all walks of life who wanted to improve their speaking voices.
Sometime, afterwards, Kebbe collaborated with Harper's Bazaar magazine to put out this record definitely aimed at the masses of American women in hopes of the female populace suddenly sounding just as beautiful as they look. To make this happen, Kebbe describes his methods:

For a long time I had been working to develop a concise, conventional vocal course, one so simple that anyone, even working alone, could use it. I know that this course would have to solve two basic vocal difficulties characteristic of most women: the tendency to speak from a constricted throat, thus producing a harsh or nasal voice, and the tendency to speak in the front of the mouth, making the voice sound thin and hard. With these problems corrected by a system I call "The Fountain," the voice becomes rounder, fuller, softer and much more relaxed. And relaxed vocal production means relaxed throat muscles and tendons. By following this method, you will not only speak better, but will also feel and act more at ease.
When, after many experiments, The Fountain technique was at last perfected, the results were truly stunning. I first began using the method with young and oh-so-pretty models but with oh-such-squeaky-and-screechy voices. What they needed, I felt, was to be taught a fast, simple method to give them more pleasant speaking voices. The amazing fact about this method was that very real results were obtained with only a few minutes' instruction. No complicated exercises; no long period of hard, boring drudgery. In fact, the system worked so rapidly that it was almost incredible.
Then I began using The Fountain method with women who were not interested in a career of any kind. And it worked just as well for them as it had for the professional models. The remarkable results were exactly the same.
This does not for one moment mean that you can work for five minutes and completely change your speaking voice. But it does mean you can learn to use this technique in an amazingly short time and then practice as much or as little as you choose.

Bill McKee - Year Month Day Hour The End

This is a 2 LP release about the end of the human race as we know it as Jesus is coming back soon to save us from pornography, Satan worship, astrology, immorality, free thinking along with drugs, plagues, earthquakes, "phony churches" and all the other bad stuff in the world which we all know is caused by Satan. Before Jesus makes his return, some really bad stuff is going to happen which is caused by the forces of evil. However, the obedient and faithful do-gooders won't have to suffer as they will be taken off the planet by the Rapture. If only we all listen to folks like Bill McKee who knows the course of human history. For someone who is trying to warn us of our end and the error of our sinful ways, there is hardly any background info on McKee.

The only info I have on McKee is from the liner notes which appear below:

All of which have rightfully established him as a very notable speaker. But, the thing that makes Bill a "stand out" is his ability to make the scriptures come alive.

Holiday in Washington

Holiday in Washington
My hometown of Oklahoma City is about to get an NBA pro basketball team. It's too bad that it's Seattle's team (the Supersonics). Since Washington is somehow helping Oklahoma City snag its first professional sports franchise, maybe I can do a little to help Washington in return. Perhaps people would be willing to consider visiting Washington including Seattle after listening to this 7" record that's intended to draw tourism to Washington. Washington looks like a very beautiful state and could be worth paying the extraordinarily high gas prices to get there. A holiday in Washington sounds like a nice Memorial Day weekend activity. For my visitors who live in Washington, I'm sure you already know about what is described on the back cover and on the record and proud of what Washington has to offer.Seattle may be losing the Supersonics which is probably of little consequence to most Seattle and Washington residents anyway, but no one can ever take away the natural beauty that the state has, plus superstar back-in-the-day Bing Crosby makes an appearance on this record. No doubt Bing Crosby will always have more prestige than Toby Keith. I'm not sure that Oklahoma matches with Washington in the area of natural attractions, but we Okies are going to have us an NBA team. That's all we need to keep us happy along with semi-pro college football mainly from the University of Oklahoma.

The Preaching Puppets - Lil' Mike at the Seashore/Sunshine Mountain 7"

Pastor Bruce Rodrick was the man behind The Preaching Puppets on this 7" record. Puppets seemed to have been an effective way to deliver the Christian message to the children and puppets are probably still helpful today. According to this website, Rodrick hosted a couple of childrens' TV programs on a Tampa Bay. Florida station. One was a daily show called "Uncle Bruce" that was considerably secular although he emphasized teaching morals. The other show was a Sunday morning show called "Kids Bible Club" where he performed Bible drama with his puppets. This show had songs and a Bible quiz. Rodrick's main character other than himself was a dummy named Little Mike who appears on this record's first track.

There's nothing outrageous, over-the-top or anything extreme to be found on this record. This is an interesting example of the use of ventriloquism to convince children to believe in a particular supernatural entity and a religious stance. I still do not know if this was recorded during his stint in Tampa Bay or afterwards.

Millard Bennett - How to Get People to Think and Act Favorably With You

I'm not satisfied with my status in life. I wish to be great, powerful and respected. This translates to I want to make more money, get hot women to fawn all over me and to get people to agree with me on my ideas and views on life. I want to accomplish all of these things and be a pillar of the community. If not, at least I would like to have the hot women. For some reason, the ladies don't seem to be impressed when I mention that I write a blog. When I tell them it's not just any average what-I-did-this-afternoon what-I-ate-for-lunch blah blah blah type of blog, but a blog that posts records from remarkable people like Jimmy Swaggart, Jack Van Impe, Barrie Konicov, and one of my heroes, Dr. Michael Dean among other obscure records like that Canine Heart Sounds record, the ladies aren't still impressed. They usually have puzzled looks on their faces. Come to think of it, yesterday at lunch, I ate from the buffet at a nice Chinese restaurant somewhere in downtown Oklahoma City. The sesame chicken was especially good.

Hopefully, this tape from Mr. Millard Bennett will help me get ahead in life and at least get the hot women to have a brief conversation with me. I have no doubt that Millard is a success in life if he made this tape. Millard comes up with something called the 30/10 power formula. I think it's supposed to be used as a foundation to getting people to think and act favorably with you. The 30/10 power formula goes something like this: 30 minutes a day - 10 minutes to read aloud, 20 minutes to spend in further study reading good literature or to listen to inspiring and informative recordings. According to Mr. Bennett, few people have the persistence to stick with using this formula everyday. That's surprising since this formula sounds easy to use. Since some people are afraid of talking to big shots (i.e. successful people who are esteemed people in the community), Millard said you should read books by notable authors, thinkers and experts in a field of study. That way, after reading the notable authors, thinkers and experts, the big shots aren't really big shots after all. That sounds like good advice. Maybe if I use this 30/10 power formula, the ladies and the big shots won't be too special compared to the renowned authors/thinkers. Perhaps the big shots won't be big shots anymore after I listen to this tape by Millard Bennett and I can live the high life by getting people (including the hot women) to think and act favorably with me. Of course, reality would set in as the big shots have also listened to this tape or similar ones and read the notable authors and thinkers. So, the big shots may be somewhat impressed that you're confident enough to talk to them, but they'll still view you as a peon whose existence is justified so as to make sure the big shots keep living the high life while you go nowhere. The big shots with all of their prestige and personal power won't be thinking and acting favorably with you, you'll be thinking and acting favorably with them. And so it goes.

Barrie Konicov - Stop Smoking

Barrie Konicov - Stop Smoking

Almost all of the first side of the tape consists of sounds of the ocean and boring run-of-the-mill easy-listening music. The second side is where Barrie helps you hypnotize and program yourself to not ever pick up a cigarette and light up. You're not supposed to play the second side while driving your car, but Barrie says you can drive while listening to the first side. Barrie's only joking, right? There's no way I would play the first side while driving. I don't want to doze off and crash into someone/something. Supposedly, the first side is supposed to contain subliminal messages within the water sounds and the substandard music. I'm more likely to stay awake with the second side. That's not really saying much though. Barrie does drone on with only the sounds of the ocean in the background.
I wonder how much these "quit smoking" tapes and records really helped someone to kick the habit. I've been fortunate not to have become a cigarette smoker, but I know plenty of people who used to smoke who had struggled mightily to quit. No one I know mentioned any "quit smoking" recording as a factor in aiding to free themselves from this addiction. Maybe a former smoker has used this recording or a similar recording to help kick the habit. Perhaps one of these recordings are helpful for someone trying to quit smoking.

According to Barrie's website, all of the over 160 self-hypnosis tapes designed "to assist you in changing, modifying, and improving your life" contain boring run-of-the-mill easy-listening music and sounds of the ocean on the first side and Barrie hypnotizing you on the second side. Barrie's self-hypnosis tapes covers subjects besides smoking such as acne, astral projection, bust enlargement (gotta track that one down; just to show people there are things like this that actually exist, of course), drugs, goal setting, insomnia, procrastination, remote viewing, study habits, weight loss, etc. It's too bad that there's no self-hypnosis tape for paying your taxes as maybe Barrie could have self-hypnotized himself to not avoid paying his fair share and defrauding the government by telling people how to evade the IRS.

This was found somewhere on the interwebs. Since I think the world needs to get better acquainted with the antics of Raymond and Peter for some reason, I decided to pass it along here on my humble little blog. All of the material on this release took place in San Francisco, California, at an apartment building in the Lower Haight area. Raymond and Peter were basically two obnoxious loud drunks who were oblivious to the fact that their neighbors lived close enough to hear them. Actually the walls in the apartment building were really thin. Raymond and Peter mostly shouted at each other and even fought each other. A couple of Raymond and Peter's neighbors were becoming increasingly frustrated by the noise, but intimidated by the occasional violent threats by Raymond and Peter towards each other. So they just decided to record Raymond and Peter doing their thing. The guys who recorded Raymond and Peter got some laughs out of the shouting and the rants then they started to imitate Raymond and Peter and reciting their arguments. They have recorded hours and hours of Raymond and Peter. These recordings have been sold on several cassettes along with merchandise such as t-shirts, bumper stickers and even death certificates of Raymond and Peter. Curious to know how private conversations could become available for public consumption. Then again the neighbors' friend mentions that "you have to wonder how much right to privacy a person who's screaming at the top of their lungs expects."
There is a third person named Tony who sometimes dropped in at Raymond and Peter's place. Tony is a "white trash" drifter who seemed to have only contributed to the tension between Raymond and Peter. Tony at times would get in the arguments or start arguments himself where he shouted and threatened violence.



Shut Up Little Man is a best-of compilation of the recorded material. Most of the material is profane. The track titles let you know what you're in for when listening. If you're easily offended, this is definitely not for you. Otherwise, Shut Up Little Man offers a fascinating glimpse into a world that hopefully most would be fortunate enough not to experience. I think it's also funny as hell.

This particular LP was released to radio stations across the United States (this was before Clear Channel bought almost every radio station in existence) to advertise and demonstrate what services The Money Machine offered. This was released sometime in the mid-to-late 1970s, I would guess. The Money Machine was supposed to aid in bringing more income to radio stations as well as helping to bring more revenue to businesses that advertised on the radio. There's some material on this LP that would make for some nice samples for any producers and musicians out there. This is also a worthy artifact in the area of radio history and advertising. I think The Money Machine has helped radio stations be financially successful for a period of time, but it didn't help radio stations withstand the forces of media consolidation.

Earl Nightingale - Think and Grow Rich

Earl Nightingale - Think and Grow Rich

This is an adaptation from the book of the same title written by Napoleon Hill. Napoleon Hill makes an appearance at the end of the record. Meanwhile, the listeners are treated to the smooth and deep dulcet tones of Mr. Earl Nightingale, who was a pioneer in the human motivation/self-help field and precursor to Anthony Robbins and Zig Ziglar. Earl Nightingale has such a nice voice that he could easily have been a hypnotist or even a show-biz hypnotist like Dr. Dean (posted earlier in this blog). He could narrate the process of paint peeling from the walls and it would sound fascinating. It's quite understandable why Earl Nightingale is speaking on this record instead of Napoleon Hill. This will become evident when you listen to the last track.

The cover says "anything the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve". In the context of this record, that means conceiving, believing and achieving the activity of making lots and lots of money and owning lots of stuff. The folks behind this record apparently think that being rich is perhaps the greatest achievement for an individual over anything else. Becoming rich seems to be really difficult if not outright impossible as there are much fewer individuals who are rich. Nightingale and Hill believe that it is possible if an individual uses the mind. I'm sure it was most likely easier to get rich or at least achieve upward mobility when this record was released, which was somewhere around 50 years ago, than it is now as the gap between rich and poor is increasing. The rich are getting richer by the day and hardly anyone in the lower economic strata are gaining any wealth.

Back to the record, there are 13 principles laid out to use the mind to get rich. These include concepts such as desire, imagination, persistence, organized planning, power of the master mind (that sounds really awesome and powerful like some phrase out of a comic book or cartoon), etc. The listener is supposed to learn these principles and apply them so that being rich can be achieved. I found this record a few years ago at a flea market for only a dollar (makes you wonder how something that offers guidance to get rich could end up in a place like a flea market). I've seen a few other copies of this record during my time spent at the thrift stores and flea markets. Anyway, I've had a copy of this record for these past few years and I still have not gotten rich. If I had, this blog would not exist right now if that tells you anything. Maybe I just don't get it. A few of these principles are vague and maybe they're over my head. I don't quite get the idea of "the sixth sense". Perhaps my lack of understanding of the last principle is the last obstacle on my way to getting rich and owning three mansions with four-door garages, several Mercedes, Lexus, and BMW cars, a yacht, a below 10 mile-per-gallon Hummer, expensive wine over 20 years old, many shares in Fortune 500 companies, a private jet among other things with enough money left to buy, I mean donate to campaigns of members of Congress and the president so that I could get more tax breaks and the government could get rid of social programs for the peasants.

Maybe the people who got rid of their copies were frustrated and couldn't grasp the stuff on the record. Maybe they just didn't have enough ambition. Perhaps the plutocrats owned copies of this record and were able to apply the principles on this record to become successful and in effect indirectly run the USA. I know for most of you that you're not going to get rich listening to this record. But I think you'll have a better understanding of true contemporary American values. If you already do, you'll get a few minutes of entertainment providing you don't fall under the spell of Earl Nightingale's voice.

This record is taken from the Terry Garrity (a.k.a. J) New York Times bestselling book of the same title and it is narrated (or rather performed) by someone named Connie Z. Both the book and record were published during the time of "free love" (1969). This was intended as an instruction manual for women (especially seemingly for uptight middle- and upper-class housewives) on how to be more amorous as well as good in bed. The content is quite explicit which is why the cover says RECOMMENDED FOR ADULTS ONLY although it's probably not much more risque than just about any book, album, movie or TV show put out presently. While that there are moments of unintentional comedy, there are other people who believe that the content has much valuable advice.

Lust Control - Dancing Naked

A while back, conservative Christian punk/hard rock band Lust Control's album We Are Not Ashamed was posted. That album had professional production. Lust Control self-released two albums prior to that album. Dancing Naked was the band's second album. It's not as well polished in production (i.e. low-fi), but it's really not much of an issue. The tunes rock and can be enjoyable even if one disagrees with their perspective and can get past it. As far as I know, their first two albums were released only on cassette while We Are Not Ashamed was released on both tape and CD. A few songs from this album were rerecorded and put on We Are Not Ashamed. For a little background information on the band, go to the earlier Lust Control post as I don't feel like it writing it again.

King Charles and The King Charles Unicycle Troupe - The Tark Attack

It's only a few days until the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament starts so here's something for the occasion. "The Tark Attack" is the theme song of the 1987-1988 University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Rebels mens' basketball team. This release has two instrumental versions and a vocal version featuring King Charles and two members of the team, Mark Wade and Armon "The Hammer" Williams contributing vocals. It's a rap song kind of similar to the 1985 Chicago Bears anthem "The Super Bowl Shuffle." The title, "The Tark Attack", refers to then UNLV basketball head coach Jerry Tarkanian a.k.a. Tark the Shark and his style of aggressive fast-paced basketball. Under Tarkanian, UNLV was one of the best teams during the 1980s and early 1990s including winning the NCAA national championship in 1990 by beating Duke University 103-73. UNLV's success came to an end when Tarkanian resigned in 1992 due to allegations of giving unallowed benefits to players, point shaving for gamblers and other unethical behavior.

The King Charles Unicycle Troupe has been described as a basketball comedy act performed while riding on unicycles. It was founded in New York in the Bronx area. Some websites say this act performs shows quite often in Las Vegas which explains their appearance on this record. They're currently active including making an appearance on the show "America's Got Talent."

Luke Hollandsworth - Time is Running Out

I do not know anything about Luke Hollandsworth other than his beliefs as stated on this album. A glimpse at the cover reveals what is in store for the listener. Hollandsworth, at the time, was living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to the P.O. box on the cover and the labels on the record. From what I can tell, this album is a private press release. This was released from sometime during the early to the mid 1970s.


I was unable to find any information about Luke Hollandsworth and this album. Hardly anything turned up on the search engines. The only site that turned up that had anything about Luke is a personal site by Luke's son Robert. No biographical information about Luke is provided. There's only photos of Luke, Robert and the rest of the family. No one here in Oklahoma seems to heard of Luke Hollandsworth. I wonder what Luke is doing these days and if he still believes that "time is running out."

If you can't get enough of loud and noisy car engine noises in real life, you're in for a treat. Custom hot rod cars were recorded for this record on the Battle label during maybe the early 1960s. The recordings are from drag strips in locales in the United states such as Detroit, Michigan; Bakersfield, California; Bonneville, Utah and New Jersey. The Battle label put out several other similar hot rod/automobile sounds albums. The liner notes contain the information of the cars and even aircraft engines recorded on each track.

Rock & Religion (Shows No. 49 & 50)

Rock & Religion (RR 49 & RR 50)

Rock & Religion was a radio show produced in Sacramento, California. It ran from 1977 to 1981 with about 184 programs. The show focused on rock and pop music from a Christian perspective. Apparently, these programs were put on LPs as promotional copies according to that valuable internet resource, Wikipedia. My copy of Rock & Religion has programs 49 and 50.

Program No. 49 is about punk rock. It is hosted by Mary Neely, and Steve Scott, a musician and poet, is the program's guest who offers an explanation why punk rock is aggressive, violent and shocking. The program features snippets from The Sex Pistols, Ian Dury, The Damned and even The Rolling Stones. It's a fun program to listen to and is of interest to anyone interested in punk rock. The program actually offers some good sociological insight into punk rock, but probably nothing new for those already knowledgeable of punk. This show originally aired on November 19, 1978.

Program No. 50 is about how love songs have evolved from being romantic and thoughtful in the 1940s to being overtly sexual and selfish in the 1970s to say the least ("people indeed become reduced to love machines"). Song snippets from Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones (again), Rod Stewart, KC and the Sunshine Band and others are featured. The first 15 minutes is fun to listen to. The rest of the program ... not so fun. Three songs are played in their entirety that are still romantic, thoughtful and definitely sappy in the decadent 1970s and there is an interview with one of those artists. This show originally aired on November 26, 1978.

Ronnie Willhoite, a director of an organization called Search for Truth Publications, presents a training record for church ushers. It includes tips on how to be efficient in organizing seating of church goers, keeping people from being unruly during church services, how to be hospitable towards church visitors, what proper manners to use at church, how to get newcomers to keep coming to church, etc. It is quite evident that ushers (doorkeepers), play an important role in the church and ushers are needed to keep the evil forces of Satan from disrupting church services such as having unruly drunks hanging around the church as well as making sure church services are organized.

Celebrate Valentine's Day, Basement style with this "experimental high fidelity recording featuring the sounds and rhythms of erotic love."

This is supposed to be a recording of the deed or a simulated version of it which is what I think it is. There's creaking bedsprings, moans and someone playing the bongos. I guess the bongos are supposed to help provide the rhythms of love. It sounds more silly than sexy. There certainly was a market for this sort of thing back in the day since the Fax Records label put out other releases dealing with the um, rhythms of love. The US Postal Service once found this particular LP obscene. I wonder how many copies of this record were sold and who bought those copies. It's another fascinating find on vinyl.

Tony Dolan - Cry, The Beloved Country

Tony Dolan - Cry, The Beloved Country

Entities such as the media and institutions of education here in the United States are entrenched by liberal or left-wing ideology. That's what some reputable and knowledgeable people say, so since they have values and are always correct on political issues and current events, the first sentence must be true. However, what has not been mentioned is that there is another area dominated by liberals. This is where perhaps those liberals have greater influence over the hearts and minds of people. That is folk music.



Folk music came to prominence in the early 1960s especially protest songs about rights of people everywhere, injustice and war. There were many folk singers on the same ideological wavelength. However, during the sixties, there were a few folk singers such as Janet Greene and Tony Dolan, the subject of this post, who offered a right-wing or "fair-and-balanced" perspective. Tony Dolan was a sophmore at Yale University when he made the record, Cry, The Beloved Country. The record contains "ten timely and provocative songs" along with liner notes by conservative icon William F. Buckley, Jr. It is quite evident that Tony has different concerns than the vast majority of folk singers. Tony sings about the evils of communism, liberating Cuba from that commie Fidel Castro along with the conservatives' favorite institution to blame for the bad things taking place in America, the New York Times which still happens to be the most prominent newspaper in the liberal media (so they say).

I am not an expert in folk music and I have listened to a very little amount of folk music in my life so my assessment may be off the mark. It seems to me that Tony Dolan is just trying to be a right-wing version of Woody Guthrie or Joan Baez in terms of lyrical and performance style. Not surprisingly, Tony Dolan remains unknown. I do not know what Tony is up to these days (most likely still helping to advance the conservative cause I suspect), but his stance is very much alive in mainstream American life.
