The Final Post

One of the inevitabilities in life is that all things must end (so I heard). This is the message I bring to you today. This blog has run its course and it is only right that I bring this blog to a close. I no longer have the time and interest in maintaining this blog or seeking out records, tapes, CDs, and other formats of this material.

I would like to thank these fine individuals who have contributed to this blog's collection: KL from NYC, jay strange, aethr, yragentman, Tripmaster, and Jackory. (I hope I didn't forget anyone.)

I appreciate all who took the time to write a comment when visiting the Basement (except the spammers, damn you spammers).

I also appreciate all who took at least a few minutes from their lives to visit the Basement. I know those are not minutes you can ever have back, I can only hope it was fun, worthwhile, and maybe even educational.

While my interest in some of this stuff has decreased, I admit that I hope that this blog has at least in a small way encouraged people to go out and look for records, tapes, even CDs in the real world.

No need to worry about this blog being taken over by some bot and being turned into a shit spam blog or one of those blogs that contains written or copy-and-pasted celebrity news or some other such crap. It will still be up and available as a resource or as simply something for your amusement or however you wish to use this blog. Most if not all of the posts should still have active links. I may or may not decide to keep reuploading the files. This means that I may or may not take requests to reupload something. If you feel the need to repost something or two or more from this blog, all I ask is you reupload the files yourself. You don't even have to credit me.

I wish all of you happiness and wellness in your lives as well as luck in finding a weird record or two for a bargain. Thank you and farewell.

The marriage repair kit is the record (i.e. the mp3s included in the file). The "Chaplain of Bourbon Street" dispenses advice about how people should preserve their marriages. He also offers advice on whether people are ready to be married. I'm not sure I want marriage advice from someone who ended up getting divorced sometime after this LP was recorded because the guy engaged in some adultery. What this LP has going for it is a cool-looking cover and some interesting advice.

While some of Bob's advice offers suggestions for men in how to conduct their lives regarding their marriages, most of Bob's advice focuses on women. For example, Bob says that women should keep up their looks by continuously visiting the beauty parlors because according to Bob, this is God's will. Bob mentions his wife visits the beauty parlors at least twice a week. Perhaps why Bob gave in to temptation from other women who were interested in Bob because he was a celebrity was that maybe Bob's wife quit visiting the beauty parlors.

Too bad that Bob was more interested in himself at the height of his fame and he didn't bother to listen to his own record. He could have ended up saving his own marriage.

I spent 20 minutes of my life listening to this and I must say that those 20 minutes could indeed change my life. Sure I listened to a numerous amount of success-motivation life-improvement records in my life. However, I haven't felt as transformed into a new man as much as I have from listening to Earl Nightingale's 20 minutes. Good thing too as I cannot ever have those 20 minutes back.

Like many other humans, I have wondered why some people were successful in life while many more were not. Earl Nightingale certainly wondered about the same thing. From those 20 minutes, it becomes clear to me that I seem like such a loser in life because I have not been concerned with focusing my efforts towards obtaining more income and to be worth a lot of money by age 65. I have been wasting my time trying to contribute knowledge to society and helping people find information through my work in real life and in some ways my in my virtual life. I have tried to make the world a better place through education and enrichment. Alas, it turns out that I have been living life in the wrong manner.

Thanks to the smooth voice of Earl, I have righted the course of my life. From now on, I will strive to increase my income and therefore increase my wealth. I will be worth millions by age 65. I will have to put off my goal of becoming a professional librarian since professional librarians are underpaid therefore I will end up being worth only thousands by age 65 if I'm lucky. I suppose that I'll have to go get an MBA (Master's of Business Administration). That will be difficult because I can't afford to pay for more classes. Most of my paycheck is going towards paying student loans that were used for getting the Master of Library Science degree.

Then I remembered Earl talking about attitude on side 2. I need to change my attitude and emulate the attitude and personality of a person I want to be like. The person that Earl has in mind is someone who already has a high income and is projected to be worth a lot of dough at age 65. Gosh, there's no one like that in my chosen profession. Perhaps I need to read Fortune or Forbes to find a 1%er to emulate and admire. I'm sure the 1%ers have the right attitude while the rest of the people, who are being used to make more money for the 1%ers, seem to lack the right attitude.

Earl recommends coming up with at least 5 ideas per day on how to increase one's income. Earl says that one doesn't have to come up with any ideas on the weekend. He says that 25 ideas per week presents opportunities for achieving the goal of increasing income. He says some ideas are worthless while a few could be excellent. The point is to have a positive attitude and keep coming up with ideas to increase wealth, forget the rest of society, most of them are losers anyway who have a poor attitude. Earl says that the more one contributes to his efforts, the more rewards there will be for his efforts. It is implied that one must work more hours to get more money. BTW, the record is targeted at males meaning that the women are there to provide support for their men to increase their income while keeping the house clean and fixing meals. Another implication is that women don't need to increase their income. The top rungs of society must agree as they're still paying women less than men in the same jobs. Geez, if only those women weren't so darn uppity, they could go back to keeping house and serving the men in their quest for more income instead of striving for equality.

So, here are 20 minutes that too can change your life (or not you loser). At least, you get to hear the smooth voice of Earl.

After rummaging through all of the few piles of records available at some thrift store, I came up with this one and some other record. I can't recall which one it was at the moment. It doesn't matter anyway. This record presented in this post is the prize find at that time. Most of the other records were the usual easy-listening popular performers that no one seems to want and the top-40 pop records by the likes of Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow that seems to refuse to quit showing up at these places. I did enjoy eavesdropping on a conversation between two women in their 20s where they were making fun of the record covers although they were very familiar with Neil Diamond and some of the other pop records.

As you can already figure out, I prefer the sounds of machinery, jet engines, lawnmowers, pinball machines, electric pumps, and other mechanical devices over the sounds of Streisand, Diamond, and Manilow. The audio quality of these recordings is excellent. If like me, you enjoy this sort of thing, no doubt you'll enjoy this LP too.

This is one of those records that were intended for use by radio stations for airing recruiting pitches for the U.S. Navy or what are called public service messages. I'll make an educational guess that this was produced sometime during the 1970s.
The intended recipients include smart folks being encouraged to enter into training programs for advanced electronics and nuclear energy, those who don't want to serve all the time being offered training in Naval Reserves, and former Navy personnel being courted to come back to the Navy. National and local versions of these messages are on opposite sides of the LP. Side 2 of the LP includes instrumental versions of the music used. The music is played in various styles such as Latin, soul, rock, and country. From what I can tell, the different musical styles were supposed to be used for targeting various demographic segments throughout the U.S. It's too bad that there's not more music as I rather enjoyed it especially the Latin versions. It sounds a lot better than the shit music being used nowadays in public service announcement/recruiting pitches for the military.

Telling from the condition of the vinyl and the jacket, it seems to have been used quite a bit or people could have mishandled the record. Someone thought this record was worth a quarter when he or she tried to sell this copy. (I paid $1 for it at a thrift store.) Whoever priced this 25 cents didn't do a good job of covering up the torn part. I'll bet that someone else tried to sell this earlier and put a price tag on it. Then either the person who priced this 25 cents or someone else attempted to peel off the original price tag and ended up tearing a portion of the cover.
I'm sure this record is not special in the collectors' market, but that doesn't mean that whoever listens or comes in possession of it is any less special.

An album full of heart sounds and those sounds being explained with a clinical British accent sounds good to me. Now, I have a desire to find former medical students and ask if they still have their record collections that I can dig through.

This is just what I need, a quick way to learn how to develop my psychic powers. I don't have the time or patience to invest much of my free time in cultivating my psychic powers that everyone including me supposedly possesses according to gurus like Mr. Dick Sutphen (who now goes by the name of Richard Sutphen). I don't even have much free time available nowadays.

Sutphen lays out 10 exercises for developing one's psychic powers which involve blanking one's mind for at least a few seconds. Then, Sutphen conducts hypnosis sessions for listeners to further develop and cultivate psychic powers. So, it all comes down to using hypnosis for one to have psychic abilities. It sounds like something that requires a lot of time that I don't have as I've already mentioned.

The 2nd cassette has the required subliminal programming that is almost always found on these kinds of recordings. Whenever I listen to anything with subliminal messages, I never actually hear the messages. I wonder why that is. Maybe I need psychic abilities to hear them.
