This is just what I need, a quick way to learn how to develop my psychic powers. I don't have the time or patience to invest much of my free time in cultivating my psychic powers that everyone including me supposedly possesses according to gurus like Mr. Dick Sutphen (who now goes by the name of Richard Sutphen). I don't even have much free time available nowadays.

Sutphen lays out 10 exercises for developing one's psychic powers which involve blanking one's mind for at least a few seconds. Then, Sutphen conducts hypnosis sessions for listeners to further develop and cultivate psychic powers. So, it all comes down to using hypnosis for one to have psychic abilities. It sounds like something that requires a lot of time that I don't have as I've already mentioned.

The 2nd cassette has the required subliminal programming that is almost always found on these kinds of recordings. Whenever I listen to anything with subliminal messages, I never actually hear the messages. I wonder why that is. Maybe I need psychic abilities to hear them.

I recently found this cassette in a local thrift store. I have been having a little luck lately finding "quality" stuff at the thrift stores. During most of the year, there was a long spell of not finding anything interesting. I should mention that I had not much time either to dig this year. Just about every time I had a little free time to browse the thrift stores, there was nothing interesting to be found.

Enough of my thrift store woes, it's onto the topic of the post. The cassette contains two lectures by an interesting fellow named Paul Twitchell who founded his own spiritual group called Eckankar in 1965. As mentioned on the cover, the first one, "Knowledge and Understanding", was recorded in 1970 at the 1970 International Youth Conference in Chicago, Illinois. I have not found anything about the 1970 International Youth Conference. Was it organized by Twitchell and Eckankar? Was it organized by some youth organization and happened to invite Twitchell to speak? The second one, "Philosophy of No-Thing", was recorded sometime in 1967. There is no mention of where it was recorded.

Since I am not highly familiar with Eckankar, which sounds like a melding of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Christianity, I'll post the explanation of Eckankar from its website:

His goal is spiritual freedom in this lifetime, after which he becomes a Co-worker with God, both here and in the next world. Karma and reincarnation are primary beliefs.

Key to the ECK teachings is the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master. He has the special ability to act as both Inner and Outer Master for ECK students. He is the prophet of Eckankar, given respect but not worship. He teaches the sacred name of God, HU, which lifts one spiritually into the Light and Sound of God, the ECK.

The ECK (the Holy Spirit) purifies one of karma (sin), making it possible for him to accept the full love of God in this lifetime. Then he gains wisdom, charity, and freedom.

Personal experience with the Light and Sound of God is the cornerstone of Eckankar. Of all the religions on earth today, Eckankar offers the most direct teachings on the Light and Sound of God. These twin pillars are missing in whole or in part from the rest. People who truly find these two aspects of God undergo a complete spiritual change. The Eckankar website obviously provides a biography of Paul Twitchell and so does the Om-Guru website and so does that awesome resource of information, Wikipedia. Wikipedia says that Twitchell was a plagiarist who stole from the likes of Kirpal Singh, L. Ron Hubbard, H. P. Blavatsky, Julian Johnson, and others. In the world of academia where I currently reside as a student, plagiarism is the biggest sin one can commit. Everywhere else, like in the real world, to steal would be genius or somewhere along the lines of what that quote is. This means that Paul Twitchell is a genius. After all, he is the original ECK Master.

This album reminds me of those Balsara and His Singing Sitars LPs. It sounds like one of those cash-in pop sitar albums chock full of cover songs. I'm not really sure which ones are originals or covers as no credits are given. No liner notes or performer credits are given either (except for Arshad Mahmud and Majid Khan on the cover). It would have helped that this information be included on the release as there is really no substantial information about this release or about Arshad Mahmud and Majid Khan on the internet tubes.

I'm sure that anyone into pop-sitar or space-age lounge instrumental stuff could dig this. All of the songs performed have a slow tempo making suitable for playing while chilling out and trying to impress your cool friends who probably own actual copies of Balsara and His Singing Sitars or Lord Sitar LPs. Along with the sitar, tablas, violins, chimes and flutes can be heard. There is even a cheap-sounding drum machine used on a few tracks ("How Can I Be Happy", "Yesterday Gone", and "I'll Come Along") instead of tablas. It sounds like the drum machine feature on one of those Casio keyboards that cost just a little over 100 bucks at one of the national big-box retailers. The album is really pleasant and charming stuff although most of the time I prefer the more authentic or traditional Indian music.

Are you being stressed out by the holiday season (shopping for gifts, visiting relatives or being lonely because there's no family and friends available, being constantly bombarded by Xmas music, pressure to celebrate accordingly, etc.)? In the spirit of generosity by yours truly, I am offering this item to help you relax from all of the pressures of the holiday season. Yes, this is another present from me to you.

This is not anything subliminal, this is what is called "paraliminal" as the cover says. Dictionary.com nor any other similar dictionary-type site does not give a definition of this term "paraliminal". Apparently "paraliminal" is where a soothing voice can be heard. Then sometime later, two soothing voices from the same person are heard as what happens around the 21-minute mark of the recording. I think it sounds cool and it is my favorite part of the tape. The voice on the tape is by Paul Scheele, founder of an organization called Learning Strategies Corporation. He has produced and released many other "paraliminal" tapes focusing on self-improvement topics.
When you're finished listening to this tape, you should feel refreshed. That's what Mr. Scheele in his calm soothing voice says, so it shall be.

A few tips are provided in the liner notes. They include:

* Use stereo headphones. (If you are using a monaural tape player, place it at your left side.)
* Be in a place without distractions. [Duh.]
* Do not listen to this tape while driving or operating machinery. [Duh.]
* Sit or lie back in a comfortable position when listening.
* Give your attention to the tape. [Duh.]
* Do not force concentration.
* Relax as deeply as you like. You may move on to anything else whenever you desire by simply opening your eyes.
* At times two voices will be speaking simultaneously. At times they may seem to move. [Told you it sounds cool.] It is best not to follow the words of each voice, but go with the flow, rhythm and movement of the voices and sounds.
* HAVE FUN! [Does this mean I should play this at a party? The thought never occurred to me to relax and have fun at the same time.]

I found two cassettes of this program at a local thrift store. The program on the cassettes is from the The John Ankerberg Show TV program. "The Fatal Myths of Condom-Based Sex Education" purports to explain the fallacies of sex education involving condoms and other sexual protection drawn from supposed research and wild tales of public schools encouraging promiscuity. It does not take long on the program for Ankerberg to make clear his agenda of pushing ideological fundamental Christian based abstinence-only programs in public schools. Ankerberg and his many guests including the likes of Phyllis Schlafly, D. James Kennedy, Gary Bauer, Charles Stanley, Beverly LaHaye (wife of Left Behind author Tim LaHaye), etc. assert that using condoms will still lead to dire consequences such as teenage pregnancies and death. According to them, public schools or rather every school should be teaching morality drawn from their kind of religion.

Some douchebag named Josh McDowell says on the program that people believe it is not government's or society's business what goes on with two consenting adults behind closed doors. Josh becomes indignant when he points out that these same people want the government to fund AIDS research as if it is a hypocritical thing to do. I guess that finding a cure for a deadly disease is immoral if said deadly disease is supposed to prevent teens and unmarried adults from fornicating, right. I would not be surprised if Josh is still as ignorant of AIDS today as back in 1993.

Ankerberg and his ilk contend that abstinence-only programs work the best for turning teens into responsible and moral abstinent teens. Even better is that teens become followers of Ankerberg's brand of religion and give 10% of their paycheck to their church. Anyway there is factual evidence that proves Ankerberg and his friends wrong [the two links are examples out of many more sources]. Plus check out the .pdf report "Abstinence Only vs. Comprehensive Sex Education: What Are the Arguments? What is the Evidence?" on the AIDS Research Institute website.

Informing teens, who happen to be at stages in their lives where the hormones rage the highest, about all of the options including contraceptives and abstinence along with factual information about sex is the most effective way for teens not to end up in terrible situations due to their having sex. Teens will be at least interested in sex due to the combination of raging hormones and curiosity. Why not properly educate them. Ankerberg tries to counter this fact by saying that human beings are not animals and that abstinence-only programs can control the animal urges that people do not supposedly have in the first place. Even if teens are growing up in a religious household or in religious surroundings, they'll most likely still engage in some fooling around. My friend and fellow blogger, JACkory, attended a church camp for three years while he was in high school. During the third year at church camp, his girlfriend did for him what Monica Lewinsky did for Bill Clinton. I have no doubt that stuff still takes place at church camps and church meetings around the world.

John Ankerberg is much occupied with Christian apologetics among with everything else of interest to fundies if his crammed website is any indication. According to his biography:

Producer and host of the nationally televised John Ankerberg Show, a half-hour program seen in all 50 states via independent stations, the DAYSTAR Network, the DISH Network, DirecTV and on the SKY ANGEL Satellite, numerous cable outlets, as well as on the internet. The program can be seen each week by a potential viewing audience in excess of 99 million people. John presents contemporary spiritual issues and defends biblical/Christian answers.

Note: The tapes have quite background noise including hissing that I was unable to get rid of. Otherwise the tapes still play and the listener can hear what is said.

I saw the cover and was excited in anticipation of getting to hear recordings of answering machine messages from highly acclaimed actors and actresses such as Nina Hartley, Herschel Savage, Nikki Charms, Misty Dawn, John Holmes, and others. (Not that I'm familiar with their work, I heard from various sources that they have a mastery of their craft.) Maybe I should have looked at the cover a little more closely.

Anyway I bought the tape, which was still sealed by the way, at a local thrift store. Sometime afterward, I opened the case and popped the tape into my car tape player. I discovered that this is a version that has only male voices. I was a little disappointed that I wouldn't get to hear Nina Hartley, Nikki Charms, and the other fine actresses. But I got over it and the tape provided a few minutes of entertainment for me. It also provided motivation for me to seek out the "female voice" version.

I guess that for you guys instead of providing your own message and voice on your answering machine which was probably boring, you get some oh so funny R-rated prerecorded messages that you can place on your answering machine. No doubt friends, family, medical practioners who set up appointments, employers, debt collectors, and telemarketers will get a kick out of the messages. One would think that these prerecorded messages make their users sound more like sleazebags. The tape provides instructions on how to do just that. (Just remember this came out in 1988.) I suppose that you can use the mp3's I generously ripped and provided for you to use on your fancy iPhone or Droid or whatever you use. So this tape could still be of use at the present.

Although not credited on the tape, I recognize James Walker's voice from the other Watchman Fellowship tapes (previously posted here and here, BTW) as the man giving a long lecture about Christian Science. At the lecture, manuals were given to attendees which are referred to on this tape. I didn't find the manual, but it's probably not necessary for listening. Walker takes on the Christian Science denomination. According to Walker, Christian Science deviates from the correct belief system (i.e. the scriptures). Walker asserts that Christian Science is neither Christian nor science.

Christian Science was first articulated by Mary Baker Eddy around 1875 when she published her ideas in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. In 1879, Mary Baker Eddy founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, the formal organization of Christian Science, in Boston, Massachusetts. Basically according to the Christian Science FAQ on its website, Christian Science "is based upon a set of spiritual principles - laws relating to the nature of God and His creation - that can be applied with expected, consistent results" and it "is based on the Bible, and Christian Scientists follow the teachings and ministry of Christ Jesus. In fact, the virgin birth, the crucifixion, the resurrection and ascension of Christ Jesus, and so on, are all central to Christian Science theology." Prayer rather than remedies by modern medicine (a product of science) is usually the Christian Scientist's first choice for methods of healing. Christian Scientists claim that healing through prayer has worked for various ailments even for fixing broken bones.

The background of founder Mary Baker Eddy explains the Christian Science belief described above:

Without a doubt, the Bible was the most significant influence in Eddy’s life. She was a devoted student of the Scriptures from early childhood and gradually gained the conviction that spiritual healing was not limited to biblical times but could be practiced as effectively today. Chronically ill, she also investigated the medical systems of her time and gained insights into the mental factors of health from her study of homeopathy. For a time, her health improved under the care of Phineas P. Quimby, a self-taught healer in Maine who combined mental suggestion or hypnosis with what today might be called therapeutic touch. The improvement was not permanent, however, and she moved beyond his methods after his death in 1866. Convinced that genuine healing was rooted in God, not the human mind, she experienced a profound spiritual healing at age 44 as she read an account of Jesus’ healings. She spent the next three years of her life researching the Bible to understand how she had been healed and applying what she was learning to healing others through a system she eventually called Christian Science.

James Walker attempts to refute Christian Science beliefs and Mary Baker Eddy's ideas throughout the tape. One of the Christian Science beliefs is that evil is illusory and only good is real. Walker asserts that evil does exist especially emphasizing that Satan is alive and well. Walker implies that Christian Science has been perpetrated by demons or dark occultic forces. Despite the membership of Christian Science declining, Walker sounds alarmist over Christian Science's supposed influence in the world and asks people to "witness" to Christian Scientists to convert their beliefs to line up with Walker's beliefs and those of the Watchman Fellowship. This tape is supposed to be helpful in helping smokers kick the habit. Some guy at the beginning emphasizes that the decision is up to the smoker, but there are stories from about 8 former smokers about how they got into the habit and their attempts to quit. There are findings from medical research and psychological tips. There are also reports of the then growing non-smoker movement not wanting to no longer tolerate smokers.

I'm all for quitting smoking, but the production of this tape seems a bit shady. It sounds like there are the same three or four people giving the testimonies of several people. I'm convinced that the people on this tape are actors. They seem to sound like the "testimonials" given by actors in infomercials for various useless crappy products. But hey, whatever helps. It's notable that there is not any info about this Institute of Research & Development operating from Nashville, Tennessee (United States). I wonder if it's still around despite the organization trying to save costs by not paying too many people (assuming that the actors and others involved in production were paid). Overall, the impression is given that this Institute was attempting to cash in on folks desperately trying to kick the habit. However, there is still some interesting material on this tape. And the cover is kinda cool.

This is another post with something that you can teach your bird to talk only this one is specifically for parakeets or parrots. Basically, your pet bird should be comfortable first then all background (i.e. distracting noise) should not be present in order for your pet bird to concentrate on you and the lessons you're teaching it such as the ones on this tape. Also, no other birds should be present, just you. According to the liner notes, parrots are sociable animals where they are more interested in each other's company than in anything else.

I've always wanted to have my own pet bird particularly my own pet parrot. Cats and dogs are okay, but parrots are really cool. However, I have no pets because no pets are allowed in the apartment building where I live. Anyway, parrots can talk. I guess that it takes time to train them to talk. You can't do that with cats and dogs. So whenever I get the opportunity to get a mortgage so I can own a house or find another apartment that allows pets, I'm getting a parrot. And I have the materials I need to engage in a some sort of conversation with my parrot. If that doesn't work out, at least I can pretend to be a pirate.

This particular recording is from a blank cassette which has been dubbed from another recording. I was unable to find a photograph of Mr. Mintz so I used the illustration above as it best gives the idea of what the listener is in for.

There does not seem to be much info about Warren Mintz or this recording. One of my good friends who goes by the name of Google turned up some info about a Warren Mintz who was a professor at Hofstra University. There is not any conclusive evidence that this is the same Warren Mintz who speaks on this recording although it appears likely that it is him.

As the recording's title says, Mintz explains this stage of the male sexual cycle. During the lecture, Mintz reads an excerpt from the literary classic, Lady Chatterley's Lover by D. H. Lawrence and tells his stories of his time spent picking apples at an apple orchard in Washington (United States). They do illustrate what he is talking about. You'll have to listen to find out how. Not only will you learn something from this tape, there is definitely plenty of material for sampling here.

I found my copy of this cassette at one of my favorite local thrift stores. I guess it's good to know that managers, executives, company bigwigs, and "$100k talent" donate their castoffs to thrift stores too. No offense intended, but I wonder if any thrift store shoppers would actually be able to use this tape much less want to buy it except for weirdos like me who scour for this kind of stuff to post on blogs like this.

Hunter Lott is a human resources consultant who is "one of America's foremost experts on hiring and firing". Hunter Lott is a champion of "the rights of management" helping out the big guy. He is presently still helping companies hire the right people for the job and not getting sued firing the people who the companies thought were right for the job.

This tape is for bosses and "human resource professionals" who are taught on side 1 on how to conduct interviews so "potential superstars" can be identified. Hunter Lott explains on side 2 how to fire people without getting an appearance in a courtroom. Anyone who is a wage slave, an underling, someone on one of the lowest rungs of the ladder, anyone who is a member of the lower classes, or any worker on the bottom of the employee hierarchy/food chain can listen to this tape to learn how management thinks on hiring and firing or how management should think on hiring and firing. Also if your name is Don, you should start to worry about your job. Just sayin'.

Michael Blate - Acugenics

Michael Blate - Acugenics

Acugenics is a program where an individual applies self-accupuncture without needles. Fingertips are used at 20 points throughout the body. The user of acugenics is supposed to be relaxed and Blate recommends that acugenics be used at night before the user goes to sleep. By the way, the user should either be naked or at least be wearing light clothing. Acugenics is supposed to be a self-healing method. The user is instructed to apply a few seconds at these sensitive spots. It sounds painful to do. I suppose that the user has to go through more pain before healing takes place.

This recording is dubbed onto what was originally a blank cassette. I found it at (you probably guessed it) a Salvation Army thrift store. I cannot tell what tape or record this recording was ripped from. I believe it is called acugenics as Michael Blate guides one through his Acugenics program while soft music of flute and occasional flourishes of harp play in the background.

On Side 2, Blate guides listeners through a healing program called applied imagination which uses a technique called guided imagery "which releases all the healing benefits stored in your imagination". This is supposed to realize your full potential for well being by balancing the energy throughout your organs. Soft music with harp plays in the background. originally released in 1988; reissued on cassette in 1999

I found this cassette at one of my favorite locally-owned thrift stores while searching for rare Indonesian cassettes and motivational and religious records. Being not familiar with this band, I was intrigued by the psychedelic black-and-white cover, album title, and the song titles on the back. Surely, something with song titles such as "Let's Get Stoned" and "Inzanity" would be worth taking a chance on. After all, the asking price was only 79 cents plus tax. I paid for my purchase and went to pop this in the cassette player in my car. (Yes, I still do have a tape player in my car, cause I'm cool like that.) I'm happy to say I got more than my money's worth from this collection of psychedlic acid-rock music.

This is loaded with guitar fuzz and vocal poetry and chants by someone named Wulf (that is the correct spelling of his name) who is the leader of this band. I looked up this guy and he has led an interesting life. Wulf Zendik wrote poetry, novels, and hung around with folks such as Allen Ginsberg and Anais Nin. He met up with someone named Arol, another artist, during the 1960s. In 1969, wanting to maintain their artistic integrity in a world dominated by commercialism, they founded Zendik Farm, an artists' collective that is still around to this day. Wulf was even more creative at Zendik Farm where he continued to write and also create and record music on albums such as this one.

Walter Martin was a preacher whose expertise are cults and the occult. He appeared to have put out a lot of recordings preaching about these subjects. I stumbled upon a tape where this lecture was dubbed. Walter believes that the occult is evil (it's all really Satan worship, right) and he explains that an increasing amount of people are believing in the occult. He fears that the occult will influence more people than his religion which explains this recording's title. It probably was recorded during the early-to-mid 1970s. What I most remember from this recording other than Walter's explanation of the occult are Walter's tales of encountering girls being possessed by demons and contacting Bible-hating spirits through Ouija boards. It's another educational recording for the family here in the Basement.

We'll continue with the back-to-school series of posts. This guy explains on this tape (from 1970) how to prepare for tests and how to do well on tests as well as how to make good grades in classes. I think I should have posted this one first instead of Techniques for Academic Success. Basically, if you don't do the homework and flunk the tests, you fail the classes. Thus, you become a loser in the realm of formal education which means you'll most likely for the rest of your life be working for low pay in either a big-box chain store taking shit from prick managers and ill-mannered customers or serving high-cholestrol, fattening, greasy food for a fast food chain while taking shit from prick managers and ill-mannered customers. So you better get motivated to succeed and start listening and/or passing this on to someone who's attending school.

I know that the people out there want more druggie albums as well as more stuff about Satan and LPs of how to remove pimples from rear ends (I will be somewhat amazed if there is in existence of an LP of how to remove pimples from anywhere on the body). It's not that I am psychic that I know what people outside of my locality want (because I'm trying to find time to fully concentrate and listen to Russ Burgess again, yeah that's it.) It's that my visitors have asked for these kinds of albums.

I am sorry to disappoint any of you that the subject of this post does not deal with any of the topics mentioned in the above paragraph. No, I take that back. The cassette that is the focus of this post is very important, so you all really need this. You see, August is here and school usually starts in the middle of August here in the U.S. of A. Even if you are not going to school, no doubt you know someone who is going to school. If you are a visitor and fan of this blog, you are definitely acquainted with someone going to school. That person is yours truly.

This cassette by one Dr. J. Clifton Williams teaches listeners how to succeed in school which translates to how to be a success in corporate America. On side A, he explains how to effectively and efficiently write papers and give oral reports. I am fond of side B. Dr. Williams explains how the library is a very helpful resource for succeeding in school and how to use the library to its fullest advantage. That is awesome and here's the kicker. I am in library school right now. Library school is formally called School of Library and Information Studies (LIS). Library schools throughout the country have this name or something similar. Hopefully, I'll be employed in a library or archive somewhere soon.

There is not much information about Dr. Williams available. There is not even a Wikipedia entry for Dr. Williams although there is some composer who shares the same name who is apparently significant enough to have a Wikipedia entry. All I was able to find out is that he has degrees in psychology, does consulting in management and advises the president of Baylor University.

Nothing here about drugs, Satan or removing pimples, but you or someone you know will get an A or at least a B. Not to worry, druggie and Satan stuff as well as more stuff to make you a success in life are forthcoming.

Dick Sutphen - Chakra Balance

Dick Sutphen - Chakra Balance

Dick Sutphen is an expert on metaphysics and a hypnotist. He has written a lot of books and recorded a lot of cassettes and CDs. He also offers services such as private past-life and spirit-contacting therapy, personal "phone-coaching" and seminars to medical professionals on how to use his "life-changing techniques".

Mr. Sutphen has a weekly radio show, "Dick Sutphen's Metaphysical World", which is available for download on the Contact Talk Radio site.

On this cassette, Dick guides listeners on how to balance their chakras through hypnosis to achieve improved health and vitality and heightened awareness. What are chakras, you ask? According to the website, Eclectic Energies, they are:

...centers of energy, located on the midline of the body. There are seven of them, and they govern our psychological properties. The chakras are located on the lower part of our body are our instinctual side, the highest ones our mental side.

The chakras can have various levels of activity. When they're "open", they're considered operative in a normal fashion.

Ideally, all chakras would contribute to our being. Our instincts would work together with our feelings and thinking. However, this is usually not the case. Some chakras are not open enough (being under-active), and to compensate, other chakras are over-active. The ideal state is where the chakras are balanced.

The site linked above offers a chakra test to determine if your chakras are open, under-active or over-active.

On Side A, as already mentioned, Dick explains how to cleanse and balance one's chakras in a soft slow-paced voice. His voice is combined with a heartbeat and vibrato-tones. On Side B, the person speaking is not Dick, but some woman who is not credited anywhere. She guides listeners to engage in meditation to balance the chakras to achieve higher awareness.

Important Note: A Basement of Curiosities along with Mr. Sutphen emphasizes that this tape should not be played while driving your vehicle.

This is a 2-tape set released in 1991 by Christian fundamentalist and famly psychologist Dr. James Dobson and his merry band Focus on the Family. The material on the tapes were from the Focus on the Family radio broadcast. The first tape is a panel discussion headed by Dobson. The rest of the panel include Frank Peretti, who seems to be a Christian version of Stephen King and author of what is considered the notable Christian horror fiction novel, This Present Darkness among others, Dr. Fred Dickason who was a faculty member at the Moody Bible Institute and an expert in demon possession and angeloogy, Steve Russo, an evangelist and the featured attraction of tortuous school assemblies, and Sal Dena, a private investigator who specializes in spiritual warfare and crimes revolving around Satanism and the occult. The discussion is basically about how satanism is vying for the hearts and minds of America's youth in tandem with the other "evil philosophies" humanism and the new age. So, those who engage in free thinking, scientific inquiry, compassion and just plain secular are really doing the work of the devil. Got it. Thanks panel. These folks also offer equip listeners "with the key strategies and tools we all need to combat Satan in today's world." Gotta protect families from other belief systems and the possibility that humans can lead virtuous lives without believing in supernatural entities.

The second tape is a lecture by Frank Peretti. He "shares - with delightful humor and creativity - how man's quest for personal power has led society to embrace 'moral relativism' and the dangerous belief that man himself is a god. An insightful look at man's search for truth, this is a presentation you won't forget!" Believe me, you won't forget this presentation, but for probably different reasons other than what is intended by Peretti.

Focus on the Family was based in Pomona, California, when this set came out. In 1993, the organization moved to what became the epicenter of fundamentalist Christianity, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Gil Boyne - Mind Power Cassettes

Gil Boyne is a certified hypnotherapist. He is not some average hypnotherpaist, he is one of the pioneers of the profession of hypnotherapy and a true master of hypnotherapy (other hypnotherapists say that he is the greatest of all time). Gil Boyne has been awarded "Man of the Century" by the International Hypnosis Hall of Fame in 2000. Many hypnotherapists have been molded and developed by Gil Boyne in his courses.

According to his website: Gil Boyne has made numerous original contributions to the contemporary practice of hypnotherapy. He has brought to the counseling professions an awareness of the "inner wisdom” of the human psyche. He teaches that the “inner creative mind” not only knows all the questions but knows all of the answers as well.

Recently, I found a cassette with a couple of Boyne's self-hypnosis programs. He teaches the listener the art of self-hypnosis on side 1. On side 2, he helps the listener learn the secrets of success and overcome the mentality of the willingness to fail.

I think I ought to play this tape during sleep especially side 2 as I feel like I am going to be successful and wealthy just by listening to side 2. I should have it played every night with headphones or earbuds on just like what happens to the children as they are subjected to hypnopaedia or sleep-teaching in Brave New World. I learn that desiring wealth then increasing my wealth is spiritual fulfillment and will become my destiny.

I found this cassette at a library sale a few months ago. I found this tape on the same day I found those New Age Movement cassettes that are in the previous two posts. The tape is just a white cassette with no labels or marks and it came with a business card of one Yanie Brewer (photo above). As you can see from the business card, Yanie is a clairvoyant who apparently specializes in past life readings.

The tape has a recording of Yanie doing a reading at either a fair or a convention or some other kind of gathering of folks. I can't tell if this was recorded by Yanie herself or if this was (likely secretly) recorded by the person who was receiving the reading. I suspect it is the latter. Only one side of the tape has a recording of Yanie at work, the other side is blank.

To learn more about Ms. Yanie Brewer, I consulted my best friend, Google. Google did not find much information about Ms. Brewer, but as usual it did its best to retrieve what relevant information it could find. One of the few sites Google found says this about Brewer: An experienced intuitive teacher and healer, Yanie Leaha Kyra [Brewer] brings her talents into her journey to assist people in their awareness and soul connection. . . . Yanie Brewer is a local Austinite [Austin, Texas] who spends her life learning and being the most she can about "spirit" and the universe.
