Professor X - This Beats Working for a Living: The Dark Secrets of a College Professor

Professor X - This Beats Working for a Living: The Dark Secrets of a College Professor

Here's another book for y'all. School is back in session here in the United States of America so perhaps this will be educational.

This paperback gives an insider's expose of the world of the college/university professor by a professor. This came out in 1973, but I suspect that most of the behaviors, habits, foibles and personality traits of professors depicted in this book are still the same today as well as the daily conditions of the academic world. An example told by Professor X is that professors generally lead dull lives, so to make their lives more exciting they start feuds with other professors usually over minor things. For instance, during a committee meeting, a professor became enraged and started an argument with a fellow professor over a $79 chair.

Another example of the behaviors of professors is that although they strongly emphasize to students not to plagarize, professors crib (or steal) material from several textbooks and use the material in their lectures and research.

The author wrote this book anonymously as he would have made a bunch of enemies and possibly would have had to seek employment in the "real world". The reader learns that most professors couldn't make it outside the confines of the academic institution and that professors tend to be rejects from industry and government.
It has somehow been revealed that Professor X is Odie B. Faulk, professor and head of the department of history at Oklahoma State University (located in Stillwater) at the time he wrote and published this book. Most of Professor X's personal anecdotes take place at Oklahoma State University. Odie has a page on the Texas Tech University's library of his donated manuscripts and other materials. One of those manuscripts include this book.

From the back cover:

AN UNCONVENTIONAL TOUR OF THE IVY-COVERED WALLS

Professor X asserts: "The Ph.D. has become a license to steal! The position of college instructor demands little work, less intelligence and no courage."

SALARIES: "Considering their work load, professors are amazingly well paid. A college instructor with a twelve-hour load is in the classroom just twelve hours each week."

ACADEMIC COMMITTEES: "The one committee on most campuses that actually does some work is the one dealing with salaries and fringe benefits. Here the professor members seem inspired, even possessed; they would make old-time labor leaders proud."

Students will read this book with glee, the profession will fume, and the hapless taxpayer will discover why he has to hock his future to pay for his children's college education.

This is a companion LP to the film Grand Prix. Race car driver Phil Hill narrates this album and interviews fellow race car driver Graham Hill (unrelated to Phil) and Grand Prix film director John Frankenheimer. The first track has those interviews. Then the rest of the album features recordings of Formula One race cars in action at four race tracks throughout Europe. More glorious car noises are in abundance here.

Beth Brown - The Truth about Mental Telepathy

I am trying out posting e-books here. I'm not as experienced in converting books to digital form. I have practiced with the paperback of this title. I scanned all of the pages. It's easy to do so when it is a paperback that is barely over 100 pages long. I may have damaged the book a little when I had to open the book wide enough for all of the pages to be scanned. Not that it matters much anyway, as the previous owner (presumably) had a need to write her or his name on the cover.

I am soliciting feedback about the quality of the scans and if you prefer a bunch of separate picture files or for the scans to be in .pdf form or if there's any other way you would like the scans to be presented. I also have plans to include magazines and other similar types of publications here sometime in the future.

Beth Brown - The Truth about Mental Telepathy

I obtained this copy at an antique store in Bethany, Oklahoma, a suburb west of Oklahoma City. This book promises to be a guide for anyone to develop their telepathic powers and case histories of people doing so.
This book is certainly loaded with case histories about instances where people suddenly found their telepathic abilities in life-altering situations such as a secretary mentally signalling to her boss to give her a raise or a schoolteacher sending signals to draw potential mates for marriage. It seems that more of the pages are devoted to case histories rather than how to develop your telepathic powers.
Supposedly, telepathy was used (unintentionally) to invent the telegraph as Henry Morse in England along with three other people in locations far away from England came up with the idea at about the same time. The author claims that telepathy played a key role in some other significant technological developments such as the printing press, the cotton gin, the automobile, etc. Curiously, there are not any footnotes or sources provided for these claims.
Not only will you develop your telepathic powers that you have (yes, the author says that everyone is supposed to have them), but you read a lot of interesting anecdotes and learn how to use your mind when you're finished with the book.

From the back cover:

Have you ever had someone on your mind, then decided to telephone that person only to hear him say that he was just going to phone you, or that he'd been thinking of you all day?
This is one of the commonest telepathic experiences.
Many people, too busy or uninterested to delve into the subject, chalk up such experiences to coincidence.
These people are not likely to develop their telepathic powers to the fullest extent; and some will meet head-on with misfortune that could have been avoided through faith and concentration.

Beth Brown has been a student of mental telepathy for many years.
She has known the thrill and excitement of gratifying telepathic experiences.
In this volume, she shares her knowledge and belief.

Sydney Omarr - Virgo

Sydney Omarr - Virgo

I meant to post this on August 23, the first day of the Virgo sign, but it slipped my mind. Basically, according to Mr. Omarr, you Virgo (born August 23 to September 22) "are perceptive, analytical, able to size up situations and people. Now you've been described by many as a critic, an individual who is overly concerned with neatness, with health, with a desire for perfection." However, "most of your criticism results from a genuine desire to be of service, to improve conditions." Sydney has more information about your sign, Virgo, as well as how you relate to the other 11 signs of the Zodiac. You'll have to download it yourself to find out more. As if this LP's appearance in the Basement is not enough of an endorsement itself, Henry Miller, considerably one of the best writers around, wrote the liner notes that are on the back cover. The liner notes are in the file too.

Excerpts from the valuable resource Wikipedia on the interesting background of Sydney Omarr:

Sydney Omarr (5 August 1926 – 2 January 2003) was an astrologer and counsellor to the rich and famous. While he wrote numerous books on the subject of astrology, including My World of Astrology and his autobiography Answer in the Sky, he is probably the most widely known for his books on the popular Sun Sign astrology that endeavoured to predict a person's astrological influences based on his 'Sun Sign' - technically derived as the constellation providing the backdrop to the Sunrise on the day of a person's birth (such as Aries, Taurus, etc). He also wrote a daily Sun Sign horoscope column which appeared in more than 200 daily newspapers of the Los Angeles Times syndicate and which was read by millions. It is believed that Sydney Omarr has sold more books on the topic of astrology (over 40 million) than any other individual.
...
As Omarr became a rather prolific writer, he also reinvented himself as a celebrity in his own right, appearing on various radio and television shows to include Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, and Johnny Carson. He knew countless celebrities, and his wife Jeraldine Saunders was a former model, cruise director, and the creator of the "Love Boat" concept for ABC television.
Toward the end of his life, Omarr wrote a series of astrological guides published by Penguin, Sydney Omarr's Day-By-Day Astrological Guide. While he authored the books up until his death, his protégés have taken over the work, and Signet continues to publish the series. He believed he had been an astrologer in many previous lifetimes, and he was able to do full planetary horoscopes in his head when given an individual's birth coordinates and birth time. For his Los Angeles Times syndicate columns, he wrote each and every daily horoscope column personally, usually three weeks in advance.

...
Sydney Omarr died on 2 January 2003 at St John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California of a heart attack. His wife and friends were at his side. He is buried at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
Omarr was born Sidney Kimmelman at 10:27 a.m. on 5 August 1926, in Philadelphia, with the Sun, Mercury and Neptune all in Leo, and Libra on the Ascendant.

Forrest McCullogh - Flight F-I-N-A-L: A Dramatic Comparison to Death

Forrest McCullough - Flight F-I-N-A-L: A Dramatic Comparison to Death

Once again, special thanks to aethr for contributing to the Basement by sharing this gem. You better believe me, it is a gem. If you're good, you get to go on an all-expenses-paid one-way trip to the special place that would become your final destination. Even better is that Flight F-I-N-A-L is not affected one bit by rising fuel costs.

Narrated by Paul Evangel

Labels on the vinyl say that the "inspiring" music is by the Combined Choirs of Trevecca Nazarene College.

Here's a little bit of info I got from aethr in the comments section in one of the previous posts: written and produced by Forrest McCullough, Evangelist...Amazing record of evangelist madness where the journey to heaven is represented by an airflight with religious student as stewardess and chairman as copilot...lots of christian music choirs and absurd prayers.

I used to own a copy of this LP years ago. I became caught up in some spring cleaning and this LP was purged along with many others. This is one of the few LPs that I regret parting with. In a way, I am reunited with this record. This would have been one of the first posts in this blog if I still had my copy, but it's here now. Hopefully, the flight depicted on this LP will be on your schedule when the time comes.

Earl Nightingale - The Strangest Secret

Earl Nightingale - The Strangest Secret

Yes, that's right. Earl has a strange secret. It's this secret that reveals how to achieve greater success, that reveals how to enjoy greater happiness and peace of mind. How do I know this? Well, the cover says so, therefore that's what the strangest secret does.

Okay, there are actually a lot of secrets out there that are much stranger than Earl's and I bet none of those other secrets have anything to do with greater happiness and greater success. I'll leave it up to you to dwell on those other secrets.

Earl Nightingale is known basically as a pioneer in the field of self-help/human motivation. At around the age of 12, Earl started to get interested in human motivation or why some people are successful while most other people are failures in life. This was during the Great Depression where Earl, like many other Americans, lived in squalor. The years have passed by, Earl serves as a Marine during World War II, then he goes in the radio business. He also starts an insurance agency at the same time where the agency went from last place to sixth place in sales witihn two years. He was also involved in advertising and public speaking.

Then at the age of 35, Earl "retires." This was evidently a big deal as newspapers all over the country wrote articles about Earl's early retirement. Earl doesn't actually retire but starts to study human motivation (his obsession from childhood) and wrote "The Strangest Secret" as well as recording other motivation records.

The other side of this LP consist of The Southwestern Company Sales Tips. These tips are aimed at salesmen particularly college students doing this as a summer job. The Southwestern Company publishes reference books and to this day still exists to supposedly "build people" i.e. hiring college students for cheap as "independent contractors" to peddle their books. Earl schools Southwestern's salesmen in how to deal with the customers and convince people (prospects) to buy the books. Back when this LP came out, salesmen went up to peoples' doors unwantedly and interrupted their lives to talk them into buying some crap. Nowadays, salesmen (known by their new common name "telemarketers") use the telephone to call and interrupt people during dinner time. At the end of the side, Earl in his calming smooth voice offers consolation for those folks unable to sell anything and encourages them to try again the next day while thinking how to differently approach the prospects. I mentioned in an earlier post that it would be a pleasure to even hear Earl describe paint peeling because of his voice. Listening to Earl dispense sales tips has kept me glued to my seat considering that I don't give a shit about selling books door-to-door.

Dr. Paul P. Parker - How to Use Tact and Skill in Handling People

Dr. Paul P. Parker - How to Use Tact and Skill in Handling People

Knowing how to deal with people is a valuable skill in all walks of life. It's certainly a neccessity in corporate America, the intended target audience of this record. Having tact and skill in handling people is helpful whether one is trying to sell stuff to customers, wooing people and organizations to secure them as clients, negotiating business deals, getting along with co-workers or managing employees. Handling people is undeniably the most important factor to accomplish corporate America's goal and only reason for its existence: to make more profits.

The cover is revealing for this record's true intentions. There is a small round table with a chess board and chess pieces on it. A chess match is in progress. A captured black chess piece stands off the chess board and a caputured white chess piece also stands off the chess board. There is only one chair. Whoever occupies the chair has the white chess pieces. The one with the black chess pieces does not have a chair. Why is there a chair missing?

The cover is saying that handling people is like being in a chess match. It seems that the other people that are to be handled are the opponents. Specific chess pieces have only certain moves that are allowed in the game. Perhaps there are specific moves to be applied in dealing with different types of people. Strategy is the most important element. It's how to handle (perhaps manipulate) people in getting them to do what you intend. They are the captured chess pieces.

The cover is also subtle in another way. The goal in chess is to capture the opponent's king (the kingdom). Is the cover symbolic in that people in companies are in a real-life chess match? The goal is to capture the real-life equivalent of the opponent's kingdom, the competing company/corporation whether it would be taking it over or just putting it out of business.

Louise Egolf - Train Your Bird to Talk

Louise Egolf - Train Your Bird to Talk

The Basement continues to help teach useful skills to people because this is first and foremost an educational blog. It was ventriloquism, now it's training your pet bird to talk. Quite obviously, you'll need a living pet bird, especially one of the species mentioned on the back cover, for this skill to be of any use. Even if you don't have a pet bird, listening to this may still be helpful in case you someday purchase your own pet bird or to sample it like the Orb did on a remix of "Toxygene". This record contains 14 tracks of a woman named Louise Egolf repeating the word or phrase that is also the name of the track. You play this record for your bird so that your bird will learn the words or phrases and mimic them. A woman's voice was used because a woman's voice is easier to understand than a man's voice according to the liner notes.

The back cover says that this record can teach the following birds to talk:

African Grey Parrot, Bee Bee, Blue Crowned, Blue Front, Budgerigar (better known as the Parakeet; also called the Budgie), Caique, Chattering Lories, Cockatiel, Cockatoo, Double Yellow Head, Finches Amazon, Green Cheek, Half Moon Conure, Indian Ringneck Parakeet, Jenday, Lorikeet, Love Bird, Macaw, Mynah Bird, Nanday, Orange Cheek, Orange Wing, Panama Parrot, Red Headed Amazon, Rosella, Toucan, Yellow Head, Yellow Nape

Best of luck and wishes for many years of your bird talking to you.

Jimmy Nelson - Jimmy Nelson's Instant Ventriloquism

Jimmy Nelson - Jimmy Nelson's Instant Ventriloquism

The Basement, as you now know, also attempts to provide opportunities to learn useful skills. That would be cool if some of my visitors gain the ability to be ventriloquists. It seems that the fine art of ventriloquism has nearly vanished though it did show up in America's Got Talent. This record offers people the abilities to quickly master the art of ventriloquism. All they need is a puppet/dummy or two and, of course, the means to listen to this record. Jimmy Nelson along with two of his friends, Danny O'Day and Farfel, guide the listener through mastering the difficult letters and encouraging people to keep practicing.

Corelli-Jacobs - Music to Grow Plants

Corelli-Jacobs - Music to Grow Plants

If your plants need any help growing, I guess that this would do the job. Dr. George Milstein thought that this was really a good idea.

George Milstein, a New York horticulturist, has determined that music helps plants grow. 'The secret,' he says, 'is a high frequency sound that blends right in with the music. I believe that the sound waves cause the plants to keep their pores open longer and wider, allowing a greater exchange with the air around them.' So once a day for forty-five minutes he plays music for his plants, and he has been so successful that he now has produced a record called Music to Grow Plants By. (Captain James Conely in Air University Review March-April 1972)

The music is orchestral sorta-funk lounge, the type of music used in movies and TV shows back in the 1970s when this record came out and also found on "library" records.

Note: The music is credited to Corelli-Jacobs on the record's label. There doesn't seem to be any information about them on the Internet.

Texe Marrs - Big Sister is Watching You [book cover]

Hillary Clinton, widely considered the favorite, has lost the nomination to Barack Obama to represent the Democratic party in the upcoming United States presidential election. However, there is still a small chance that "Big Sister" could be chosen to be Obama's running mate and therefore become vice-president if Obama wins the election.

This book was published in 1993, when the Clintons were just beginning their reign. Gas prices averaged somewhere around 70-80 cents a gallon, sub-prime was not a type of mortgage, and the USA didn't go invade another country. However, there was supposedly some bad stuff going on behind the scenes of the Clinton administration. I'm not talking about sneaking off with some intern to get blown, it's some really bad stuff that affected the lives of the citizenry.

Texe Marrs, who previously exposed the diabolical New Age Movement, tells us in this tome that Hillary Clinton and a bunch of feminists rule America (or rather did back then) with Gestapo tactics. It's funny. I don't remember any Gestapo like behavior occurring then. I don't even remember feminists controlling the government. Maybe my memory is not as good as it used to be and for some reason I only remember that the economy was really good.

After leafing through this book, I realize that I am ignorant of what has been going on in this country during the last decade. Texe writes profiles of Hillary and her merry band of friends such as Janet Reno, Dr. Joycelyn Elders, Madeline Albright, Maya Angelou, etc., who were in important and powerful positions in government. They were part of the diabolical New Age Movement as well as part of the New World Order, Texe tells us. Some of them even wanted to have young people learn how to use condoms much less learn about sex. Also, Hillary and her women friends plotted to lead the New World Order and rule the world. I couldn't believe that all of these women were in power. Perish the thought. Thank goodness that Texe Marrs had the courage to write this book. Amazingly, the guy never got taken away by the Big Sister Gestapo and is still working today to expose the New World Order and the evil New Age Movement.

On the back cover:

Who's In Charge, And Why Are They Doing These Things To Us?

They are unlike anything the world has ever experienced. They're ruthless, shrewd, and calculating - and they've got a stranglehold on the White House. Recruited and empowered by their boss, Hillary, these are the women who tell Bill Clinton what to do. Get ready, America, for the rise of the FemiNazis!

Big Sister is Watching You unmasks the coven of brutally correct women who now rule over us. Hillary's regiment of hardened, militant feminists include lesbians, sex perverts, child molester advocates, Christian haters, and the most doctrinaire of communists. They possess awesome Gestapo powers. One heads the FBI, another the IRS. Five are members of the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations - subversive organizations whose goal is to end American sovereignty and bring about a global Marxist paradise.

Then there's Hillary Rodham Clinton. What dark power does she exercise over her husband, Bill? What's her real goal? Is she plotting behind the scenes to become President of the United States of America? Will she then go on to usher in a frightening New Millennium?

George Orwell's prophetic novel, 1984, warned us about Big Brother. Now, in the bizarre 1990s, it's time to "Move over Big Brother ... your meaner Big Sister is moving in!"

Texe Marrs is author of over 30 books, including the #1 national bestseller, Dark Secrets of the New Age, and Millennium: Peace, Promises, and the Day They Take Our Money Away. He has taught political science, American government, and defense policy for the University of Texas at Austin and two other universities, and has appeared on radio and TV talk shows across America.

Brent Rinehart update

For anyone who cares, comic book writer Brent Rinehart lost last night in the Republican Oklahoma County District 2 primary. I was hoping he would prevail so that he can stay in the news a little longer and perhaps provide material for some more filler posts in this blog. It's too bad his comic book didn't help him much as it was maybe the most entertaining thing I've read this year.

Brent obviously thought highly of his comic book as a device to win the nomination that he did not bother to engage in the usually excessive activity of throwing an election watch party. Instead, he chose to watch the new Batman flick. However, Brent made the mistake of leaving his cell phone turned on and his phone was constantly ringing. Brent probably wished that he was at the gay pride parade as I imagine that the other people at the theater were none too pleased at having their viewing, of Heath Ledger's last movie, constantly being interrupted. I don't think Brent will be getting a job writing for Marvel or DC anytime soon as Brent will undoubtedly be serving time real soon for felony campaign finance charges.

Check out or revisit the earlier post about Rinehart and read his comic book.

Also, actual posts (as in shares) are on the way.

Texe Marrs - Mystery Mark of the New Age [book cover]

Texe Marrs continues his expose of the diabolical "New Age Movement" headed by none other than Lucifer, of course. He picks up where he left off from his "#1 bestseller", Dark Secrets of the New Age. Where the heck did this book become a #1 bestseller anyway?

EDIT: As with all covers, be sure to click on the cover to look at a larger picture to see all of the details. Especially for this book.

From the back cover:

The Evil One has a Plan. Satan, the prince of this world, is unleashing a campaign of wickedness the likes of which have never before been seen on earth. No one, except those who have put their trust in Jesus Christ, will escape.

A strategic part of Satan's Plan - revealed in startling detail in this new book - includes a worldwide initiation into his service through the imposition of a Mark on the forehead or right hand. This is the Mark of the Beast, the man with the number 666. What will this Mark be? Nobody knows for sure. But it will almost certainly be one of the marks occultists and New Age enthusiasts are already beginning to use. These mysterious marks - pentagrams, triangles, twisted crosses, and others - whose meaning and significance author Texe Marrs thoroughly explores and documents, are being used to break down resistance to the coming great Luciferic Initiation. The past few years have seen a dramatic increase in the spread of these unholy symbols - on record jackets, posters, T-shirts, in magazines and other media, and even as corporate logos.

This explosive book exposes the darkness of the New Age Movement and uncovers Satan's bold design for world domination. Mystery Mark of the New Age fully reveals Satan's sobering Plan to give every man, woman, and child his unholy Mark. Yet the book ends on a note of triumph for all believing Christians - the glorious hope of our Lord's return.

Texe Marrs is the author of the #1 bestseller Dark Secrets of the New Age and more than a dozen other books. He has taught at the University of Texas at Austin as well as two other universities. A retired career officer in the U.S. Air Force, he currently heads Living Truth Ministries in Austin, Texas. He is in demand as a speaker in churches and organizations and has appeared on radio and TV talk shows across America.

Texe Marrs - Dark Secrets of the New Age [book cover]

Probably between posts on records or other audio, I'm going to start a series of posts focusing on books (for the hell of it and see where this goes). These certainly will not be books that are a part of Oprah's Book Club. It's also highly likely that these books will not be taught in any reputable academic institution or not recommended by The New York Times Book Review. I believe that most of the books to be presented here are under the radar (perhaps for good reason). I could easily cheat and just surf all over the internet to find covers for interesting, unusual and odd books. But I would rather post about books that I find in real life as the posts may turn out a little better if I have a personal connection with a copy of the book. However, this doesn't mean that I actually read the entire book. In some cases, I do not plan to take the time to even read a single page. The cover and the blurb on the back cover are usually more interesting than the text contained in the pages IMO.

You are welcome to comment on the book or comment on the author(s). Also, you can comment if you like or do not like this idea of posts about books. Yes, the majority of the books talked about are in my personal collection. I may or may not write personal comments about the books. It depends on what book it is.

The posts on books shall start with a gem from Mr. Texe Marrs who has been warning people about the diabolical "New Age Movement." The back cover is best at explaining the essence of this book along with giving a brief background of the author.

On the back cover:

In the pages of this revealing new book, the secret "Plan" of the New Age Movement is exposed for the first time in startling detail. Basing the book on an in-depth investigation of the Movement, author Texe Marrs includes over 600 actual quotes from New Age leaders which unveil their "Plan" for establishing a New Age Messiah to lead a One-World Religion and a global government. As part of the "Plan," the Movement intends to wage a total spiritual war against Christian believers. Their ultimate goal? To eliminate every vestige of Christianity.

This is the most complete and well-documented book ever published about the New Age Movement. It shows exactly what is now being done by the New Age leadership to gain influence in every facet of society, from the entertainment industry to public schools and government. Marrs details specifically the New Age Plan to win over the next generation by flooding the media - TV cartoon shows, movies, comic books, libraries, etc. - with material that promotes New Age religious thinking and doctrine. Finally, Marrs shows how New Age ideas have already begun to infiltrate and undermine Christian churches from within.

Dark Secrets of the New Age is a sobering expose of the alarming New Age Movement with an urgent message for every believing Christian.

Texe Marrs is the author of more than a dozen books on computers, technology, and Christian faith in the modern world. He has taught at the University of Texas at Austin as well as two other universities. He is a retired career officer in the U.S. Air Force and currently heads Living Truth Ministries in Austin, Texas. He frequently speaks to churches and other organizations on the New Age Movement and has appeared on radio and TV talk shows across America.

My Wish List (a.k.a. Requests)

Well, since the NBA is finally in Oklahoma City, I would like to learn more about the history of our new team that used to play in Seattle. I would like to know about the team's only championship which means that it would be wonderful if someone could provide this LP for the Basement. By the way, it's cool that OKC's team already has a championship. That's one more than the Dallas Mavericks and several other teams. ;)

It should be noted that the Seattle Supersonics name and the team colors and uniforms will not be used in Oklahoma City. The team is allegedly to be called the Thunder or the Barons and the championship banner will supposedly be hung in the arena in OKC so that the people will feel proud that not only do they have a big league team, but they have a team with a championship.
It would make me happy, if someone is kind enough to share a part of Supersonics history. For my visitors in Seattle and in the state of Washington, yes we all agree that Clay Bennett is the Anti-Christ.

I have also made a wish list of stuff I would like to have and it is on the right side of this blog. I'm not sure if I made enough posts to have a request list, but what the heck. It would be awesome if my visitors could provide one or as many as possible of the requested items and help make the Basement a special and unique place. This is hard to believe but I've heard a rumor that the Basement is almost good enough to be a Blogger Blog of Note.
Yeah, I'm not believing it either.

Thanks for dropping by and I'll talk to you soon.

Stag Party in London Vol. 2

Stag Party in London Vol. 2

I was a surprised to spot a copy of this record here in Oklahoma. As you can see, the words "FOR ADULTS ONLY" and a picture of a naked woman are on the cover. Not only was I surprised to find a copy here in the state, but surprised to find a copy at the public library's annual sale where many children were roaming around and could have seen this cover. However, none of the children showed any interest in records when I was there. Personally I find that sad, but am relieved that I didn't have to hear any complaints from the prudes (whom I believe still account for a majority of the populace here). The library would have been forced to scrutinize and further examine the contents of the records. Then again, this copy may have accidentally been overlooked and found its way to the racks.

According to the liner notes, this collection of songs was improvised by rugby players during their showers after games. Soldiers and laborers have also contributed some of the lyrics to these songs. This LP was recorded at a men's party. The liner notes do not mention that it was a stag party, yet I do assume that it was a stag party. The songs are quite memorable. The day before yesterday, I caught myself singing one of these songs in the shower. I won't mention which one it was, as I feel embarassed admitting it. The songs are of a risque nature where lust and um, having relations are emphasized. Okay, they do get very raunchy. They have quite a large amount of swear words. If this record was to be reissued, it would come with a large "parental advisory explicit lyrics" sticker attached to it. All but one of the songs have a group of grown men singing in unison. The songs are renditions of folk songs where the vocals are accompanied by a piano, accordion and drums although the lyrics are obviously altered.

Kids, if you come across this post, I'll point out again that this is FOR ADULTS ONLY. I say this so that I won't corrupt your innocent minds and that your parents won't get pissed at me. You're better off with something more family-friendly like R. Kelly or Kid Rock. I think that's what you kids still listen to as I haven't kept up with popular music.

Actually, the artists I mentioned really suck so if you want to listen to this and impress your friends that you have these raunchy songs, go right ahead. Chances are the music on this album is better than what you've been listening to so far. Plus, you either already know about this sexual stuff or will hear about it soon anyway.

In case anyone wants to know, I do not have Vol. 1.

Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart's Comic Book

The bandwidth for uploading audio is slow on my end, so I decided to write a different type of post to try it out.

Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart is running for reelection this year so he had someone draw a comic book to be used as campaign literature. Brent wrote all of the text. This comic book is being mailed out to people who live in Oklahoma county which is mostly Oklahoma City and its surrounding suburbs. The artwork is very similar to what is in those Jack Chick booklets. The comic book depicts Rinehart's struggles against the forces of evil such as liberal good ol' boys, Satan, and homosexuals. These evildoers are trying to stop the Republican Christian conservative hero from being reelected. The "Roads Scholar" Brent Rinehart displays his amazing grasp of English grammar and spelling.

A local news source obtains the reactions of other local politicians to the comic book. Brent's comic book also is covered in one of the national news outlets. I live in the county that is south of Oklahoma County, so I don't have a vote in the Oklahoma County Commissioner race. Nonetheless, this makes me glad that I don't have to cower in shame when someone asks me where I am from. Have I already mentioned that Oklahoma City now has a major league (National Basketball Association (NBA)) basketball team?

Here's the comic for your reading pleasure.

Pat Robertson on Music

Pat Robertson - Teens' Question #6 (Music) [single track]

Lately, I've been busy that I hardly had any time to post an update to this blog much less to even rip and upload stuff. Not to worry, more posts may or may not show up during the next several days. Most of my time is spent finding employment.

However, I have a little time to update this blog. I'm sure most of my visitors know who Pat Robertson is, but just in case, refer to this site and this site. I could type out a long post on Pat, but I only have a little time as I already mentioned.

The subject of this post is a track from Pat Robertson. It is from a 2-tape set called Answers for Today's Parents and Teens that came out 15 to 20 years ago (my guess). One tape is a recording of a group of parents asking Pat advice on basically how to raise their children. The other tape is a group of teenagers asking Pat questions on topics from drinking to sex to spirituality. Pat dispenses his wisdom on both of those tapes and both parents and teens are left in awe of Pat's sagely advice. This particular track is from the tape with the teens' questions. The question is about music and Pat says that basically the music the kids are into glorify Satan, drugs and sex as well as blaspheming Jesus. Pat also gives an explanation of the term "rock 'n' roll".

This track to me is the most interesting from this 2-tape set. The rest didn't interest me enough to take the time to post them. If anyone is interested in the whole set, I'll see what I could do. Meanwhile, you too can learn what music is wrong.

UPDATE: The file is back online. Special thanks to Loopy C for reuploading the file for me.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Link will be back soon.

Willard Cantelon - LSD: Battle for the Mind

Willard Cantelon - LSD: Battle for the Mind

*Special thanks for aethr for also sharing this one in the comments section.

I could sit all day and stare at that cover.

Oh, but I have a post to write. Willard Cantelon is another good moral man like W. Cleon Skousen who wants to save us all from the evils of LSD. Willard is not exactly a dynamic speaker (in other words, nowhere as exciting as the cover). He's not as much fun to listen to as say Jack Van Impe or Jimmy Swaggart, but the material in his lecture is more than interesting enough to keep one's attention even if it's from a Christian perspective. Although, I don't quite come away being scared out of my wits when Cantelon describes the gruesome details of the effects of LSD. I think that Van Impe would do a lot better job at that. Interestingly, I've noticed that snippets of this album appear on playlists on psychedelic music radio shows.

Ah, screw it, I'm done writing. I want to go back to looking at the cover. Anyone want to engage in a staring contest with the dude on the cover?

UPDATE: Post fixed. Originally this was posted with two sides, but what was originally posted as side 1 is the entire album and side 2 was actually the Skousen album. My apologies.

W. Cleon Skousen - Instant Insanity Drugs

W. Cleon Skousen - Instant Insanity Drugs

Special thanks to aethr for providing this one in the comments section.

Instant Insanity Drugs was released on the Key Records label, the same label that released Tony Dolan's album, previously posted on this blog. I found out that Key Records was a rightwing outfit affiliated with the John Birsch Society when I did a little research on Skousen's background.

Skousen was an FBI agent before he fully delved into writing conservative commentary. He is known for the book The Naked Communist which is about the evils of communism and their diabolical plans to turn America's children into drugged up commies and immoral blasphemers or something like that. Skousen also served on the faculty at Brigham Young University and active in the Mormon Church of the Latter Day Saints. Skousen tries to educate about the dangers of illegal narcotics or "psychedelic drugs". The guy who wrote the liner notes, Vick Knight, Jr., an assistant superintendent in a school district in Orange County, California, claims that:
Skousen brilliantly unmasks the Timothy Learys among us, the Pied Pipers who tell our youngsters they can "turn on, tune in and drop out" by means of potent weeds and seeds and chemical compounds. He tells why there is no such thing as a "good trip".

Then Vick says this LP should be required listening for every student, parent, educator and law enforcement officer. If enough of us, through this medium, become aware of the potential chromosomal damage and long-lasting psychotic aftereffects of the mind-bending drugs, then perhaps Tommy Forrester, and countless others, will not have died in vain.

Jack Van Impe - From Night Clubs to Christ

Jack Van Impe - From Night Clubs to Christ

This blog started off with a message by Mr. Van Impe where he discussed what hell really is. This message is Van Impe's conversion story of how he once was an inhabitant of night clubs (because his father was a night club entertainer) to becoming a crusader for all that is good and holy including ranting against rock 'n' roll and naked women in movies. This record reveals how Van Impe became the man he is today.

Charles Kebbe - The Harper's Bazaar Success Formula for a Beautiful Speaking Voice

Charles Kebbe - The Harper's Bazaar Success Formula for a Beautiful Speaking Voice

Written and Narrated by Charles Kebbe/Assisted by Joyce Gordon

Not only do women have to look good and be fashionably stylish, it would be nice if they have a beautiful voice to go with their fabulous good looks and fashionable style. Thank goodness this LP record came out. Released before feminism became prominent in the mainstream, perhaps the record helped the voices of Stepford wives and trophy girlfriends to sound just as appealing as their looks. The American woman is the most attractive female on Earth. The liner notes by Charles Kebbe say so, it must be true. However, Charles never says how American women are more attractive than women from all other countries or what prompted him to make this statement. It would be quite interesting to learn the reasoning behind his claim.
Charles worked for some advertising agency and he must have had a bevy of beautiful women to stare at. Unfortunately, for him, they did not sound as pleasant as they looked. So Charles wanted to do something about it. He opened a voice training workshop to coach women (and men) from all walks of life who wanted to improve their speaking voices.
Sometime, afterwards, Kebbe collaborated with Harper's Bazaar magazine to put out this record definitely aimed at the masses of American women in hopes of the female populace suddenly sounding just as beautiful as they look. To make this happen, Kebbe describes his methods:

For a long time I had been working to develop a concise, conventional vocal course, one so simple that anyone, even working alone, could use it. I know that this course would have to solve two basic vocal difficulties characteristic of most women: the tendency to speak from a constricted throat, thus producing a harsh or nasal voice, and the tendency to speak in the front of the mouth, making the voice sound thin and hard. With these problems corrected by a system I call "The Fountain," the voice becomes rounder, fuller, softer and much more relaxed. And relaxed vocal production means relaxed throat muscles and tendons. By following this method, you will not only speak better, but will also feel and act more at ease.
When, after many experiments, The Fountain technique was at last perfected, the results were truly stunning. I first began using the method with young and oh-so-pretty models but with oh-such-squeaky-and-screechy voices. What they needed, I felt, was to be taught a fast, simple method to give them more pleasant speaking voices. The amazing fact about this method was that very real results were obtained with only a few minutes' instruction. No complicated exercises; no long period of hard, boring drudgery. In fact, the system worked so rapidly that it was almost incredible.
Then I began using The Fountain method with women who were not interested in a career of any kind. And it worked just as well for them as it had for the professional models. The remarkable results were exactly the same.
This does not for one moment mean that you can work for five minutes and completely change your speaking voice. But it does mean you can learn to use this technique in an amazingly short time and then practice as much or as little as you choose.
