Bob Harrington - Holy Happy Hour

Bob is a hero. Not just any plain hero. He is a holy hero. He tried to save souls in the modern version of Sodom and Gomorrah. He tried to purge wickedness from the place, but he couldn't get it done. It's still a decadent place full of drinking, strip clubs, partying, not to mention girls flashing their breasts at passersby. There is no doubt that the place is decadent when there have been several volumes of Girls Gone Wild videos filmed in the place. Oh, by the way, Mardi Gras is just around the corner. BOB HARRINGTON - HOLY HERO. Ours is an age without heroes. And, when we say this, we suddenly realize how spectacularly the world has changed in a short time. Most of us grew up in a time of towering personalities. For better or for worse, great men seemed to dominate our lives and shape our destiny. Many of these, though already dead, still influence our existence.

This century [20th century] has known such as Churchill, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, the Roosevelts and Kennedys, Einstein and Freud. Some of these great men influenced the world for good, others for evil; but whether for good or for evil, the fact that each had not died at birth made a difference to every one who lived after them. [I don't know about you all, but I wouldn't go far to call Hitler and Stalin great men.]

Today no one strides our narrow world like a colossus; we have no giants who play roles which we can imagine no one else playing in their stead. Before he died, Charles De Gaulle remarked, "The age of giants is over." Recently, another exclaimed, "The century of the common man has come into its own."

Like a refreshing rain, a man has walked on the scene with his face to the wind - God's Man: God's Holy Hero - Bob Harrington. In this man from Bourbon Street one senses strains of a Daniel Boone or a Sam Houston coupled with portions of John the Baptist, Elijah, and Daniel. [Thank you lord!]

Why is it, many have asked, that Bob Harrington is attracting such unique attention? The answer is simple. Like great men of the past, Bob Harrington believes that man is meant to change history and not be determined by it. He introduces extremes in both joy and judgment. He tells it like it is and lives like he tells it - straight from the shoulder.

Bob Harrington does not shrink from the role of God's Holy Hero because he believes that a bland society will never be creative. "I want my boldness to be looked upon as eccentric to an unsaved society like America. We have considered the sub-normal in the search for right to be normal for so long that the normal holy righteousness of Jesus Christ appears abnormal. That's fine with me. Other men may say follow my plan or my words. I'm saying 'Follow me.' And those mothers' sons and dads who do will find who the real hero is - Jesus!" [What Bob is not a real hero after all? The liner notes further down sure mention that he is still a Holy Hero.]

And so Bob Harrington makes no pretense that he is out to claim the position of Holy Hero in the hearts of Americans today, young and old. He says, 'Which of us hasn't gained strength from the wisdom of Socrates, the creativity of Shakespeare, from the courage of Washington, the compassion of Lincoln, and above all, from the life and death of Jesus?"

And so we thank God for the Chaplain of Bourbon Street, God's Holy Hero. We are glad that he has determined to be God's great man, for in the words of Emerson, "Great men exist that there may be greater men." Bob Harrington strides toward greatness as God's man so there may be an army of God's men to follow.

Yes, Bob was a great man in the footsteps of Churchill, Einstein, Kennedy. But not even Bob was able to turn Bourbon Street into a center of holiness as today there may be more boobies flashed than ever.
