Bob Harrington - Bob's Marriage Repair Kit

Bob Harrington - Bob's Marriage Repair Kit

released on LP

The marriage repair kit is the record (i.e. the mp3s included in the file). The "Chaplain of Bourbon Street" dispenses advice about how people should preserve their marriages. He also offers advice on whether people are ready to be married. I'm not sure I want marriage advice from someone who ended up getting divorced sometime after this LP was recorded because the guy engaged in some adultery. What this LP has going for it is a cool-looking cover and some interesting advice.

While some of Bob's advice offers suggestions for men in how to conduct their lives regarding their marriages, most of Bob's advice focuses on women. For example, Bob says that women should keep up their looks by continuously visiting the beauty parlors because according to Bob, this is God's will. Bob mentions his wife visits the beauty parlors at least twice a week. Perhaps why Bob gave in to temptation from other women who were interested in Bob because he was a celebrity was that maybe Bob's wife quit visiting the beauty parlors.

Too bad that Bob was more interested in himself at the height of his fame and he didn't bother to listen to his own record. He could have ended up saving his own marriage.

Jack Van Impe - The Great Escape!

Jack Van Impe - The Great Escape!

released on LP

Well, it is December 21, 2012 at my current location and the world is still here after all. I was starting to feel bad I didn't get this other Jack Van Impe record posted as I promised in the last post.

On that note, we all get to celebrate that wonderful tradition X-mas. Of course, all of y'all are already celebrating it, right, as it starts usually from the evening of Thanksgiving to sometime in the early part of January. Also, the war on X-mas is over and X-mas won. All them darn secular socialists who don't like the baby Jesus are retreating into hiding while cowering their heads in shame.

Or so we thought the forces of good won the war on X-mas. Apparently, most of the media are wrong. The fantastic, full-of-integrity, fair and balanced news organization Fox News has uncovered evidence that the forces of bad are still at it and are winning. We here at the Basement, just like that knowledgeable and upstanding journalist Bill O'Reilly, loves X-mas and feel everyone should too because it's just so right. You'll never see "Happy H*******" in this blog. [See as you can tell, the word cannot be mentioned.]

There was no way in heck the world was ending on December 21, 2012. Only one person knows when the world is ending and that is none other than Mr. Van Impe. It can be pointed out that Van Impe hardly mentions a date (at least not on the records I've heard or his TV show) and therefore does not really know. He does tend to say dates every once in a blue moon and it never happens.
Anyway on this record, Van Impe says there's a way that people do not really have to suffer through the end. He says there's a way to escape all the horrible stuff that's about to happen during the tribulation whenever that is. All one has to do is believe the same stuff that he does (and buy his movies and give money to his ministry). Okay, I was kidding about the last half of the prior sentence though I'm sure that doing those things will get one on the most likely to be raptured list if Jack Van Impe has a lot of that social capital with the Holy One.

On this record, there is no mention of the evils of this world such as movies featuring naked people, rock 'n' roll, horse racing, lesbianism, and other nice things in life. They're all discussed in the record in the last post and a few of his other records. This record offers only hard core theology Revelations style. I have little doubt that none of those things will be present in the special place people go to when they get raptured. Also there probably will not be any of those secular progressive socialist people who feel a need to declare a war on Xmas. That place where people go to get raptured will be full of Xmas trees, Xmas decorations, and Xmas parties and no one will ever utter the dreaded words "Happy H******". Only reruns of Fox and Friends along with other fine Fox News programming will be shown.

So if one wants to be saved and be on the list to be taken to the special place, one should play this record (and give money to Jack Van Impe). (Those facelifts and other forms of cosmetic surgery to keep Rexella looking radiant aren't cheap.)

Jack Van Impe - Shocking Signs and the End of the Age

Jack Van Impe - Shocking Signs and the End of the Age

released on LP

The end of the world is supposedly only a few days from now. In honor of that occasion, I thought it was about time that I came back here and posted something. What could be more fitting than writing a post featuring the expert on "the end", Jack Van Impe. That prediction was not really one Jack made. They couldn't possibly be right if Jack didn't make that prediction, but I don't want to take any chances just in case those who misinterpreted the Mayan calendar, erm I mean the Mayans happen to be right.

By my count, this will be the 5th Jack Van Impe record on this blog. I guess that's a good thing I already posted 4 other of his records since the end is so close. It makes me sad that I'll never fulfill my dream of collecting all Jack Van Impe records (along with my other dreams of making lots of money, having park benches and stadiums named after me, and owning 4 mansions, 8 luxury cars, and a politician or two to write laws to help fatten my pockets and increase my power).

Sometime while I was away from this blog doing other stuff concerning real life, I learned that Jack Van Impe has a Twitter account. This makes Jack Van Impe as cool as Charlie Sheen and that dude that records shit his dad says. You can read his words of wisdom here.
Oops, I think I made a mistake. That's some other Jack Van Impe. This is the right Twitter account (I think). I'm happy that Jack Van Impe has a Twitter account before the end arrives. I'm happy that Twitter exists before it all ends. How did humankind as a civilization ever get by without Twitter?

I have another Jack Van Impe record. If you're lucky, I can have it posted before the end is here. In the meantime, enjoy this oh so uplifting record about those shocking signs Jack sees including plagues, swinging couples, witches, wizards and necromancers in Germany, horse racing, topless waitresses, LSD and meditation cults, and more.

B. H. Clendennen - One Nation Under God

released on LP sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s

Today, the U.S.A. celebrates its birthday. How do the people of this great nation celebrate this holiday? It's by indulging on beef fat, casings in the shape of tubes containing parts of farm animals that are not suitable for most meals, and greasy potato chips with a helping of watered down beer followed by watching bombs blow up in the sky displaying bright colors and emitting loud booming sounds with the Russian tune "1812 Overture" playing in the background. Maybe some people watch a parade before or after indulging in the items I mentioned.

On this record, preacher B. H. Clendennen is worried about the future of America. He believes America is declining because people are disrespecting the American flag by burning it or using it as an armband or as something to blow one's nose or something like that. Not only are people burning the flag as an act of protest (which they do have a right to do), they are out marching in the streets protesting war. I was able to guess the period this message was recorded by Clendennen's references to Vietnam and the "blessed" president Richard Nixon. Clendennen seems about to get in a rage over the mere thought of doing anything to/with the American flag. I'm not sure if there is anything about the flag in the Bible. He is also upset that them dirty, long-haired hippies are protesting America sending troops to Vietnam when the future is at stake. Apparently North Vietnam was a big threat to take away America's freedoms. Clendennen still thought America could win in Vietnam supposedly by the power of prayer and the belief that the one being favors America.

Clendennen also believes that morals were declining and he thinks that "taking God out of the schools" was one of the primary causes. What is meant by "taking God out of the schools" is that the Supreme Court ruled in 1962 and 1963 that organized prayer or state-sponsored prayer and Bible readings were in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment of the Constitution. (It so happens that the youth of America could still pray in school if they like.) I guess that if the public schools cannot conduct religious indoctrination then the morals of the populace would decline and everyone would be questioning authority. By the way, in contrast to the mantra "question authority", Clendennen asks the listeners to pray for those in authority.

Have a wonderful 4th of July everyone, and try not to hurt yourself when playing with firecrackers.

Freddie Gage - Drugs and Youth

Freddie Gage - Drugs and Youth

released on LP, no date given

Freddie Gage is a Southern Baptist preacher who seems mostly known for the cover of his album All My Friends are Dead. I have yet to see that LP in the real world. However, I did find this "gem". Back then, Freddie tried to sound hip to attract people to his way of thinking about the world. As the back cover says, Freddie is a "turned-on" preacher who is "out of sight" and "on the in to what's happening."

The reason Freddie tried to act like he was cool was because he focused on America's youth. From looking at the back cover again, apparently the public schools didn't have any problem letting Freddie (and probably others of the same ilk) come and preach at school assemblies (i.e. indoctrinate a captive audience of teenagers). The sermon on this album was recorded during a school assembly consisting of an audience of over 3,000 high school students (according to the album cover) in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Freddie preaches against the evils of LSD, pot, other drugs, and hippies, tells a few jokes that are surprising funny, and tells a few anecdotes about kids whose drug experiences end up in tragedy. Freddie is in hysteria mode most of the time as Freddie emphasizes that America's youth is in danger of becoming a bunch of junkies and by implication a bunch of smelly rebellious hippies. While not being explicit, Freddie's take-home point is that the youth of America can find peace and be upstanding citizens by not doing drugs and having the same beliefs as the "turned-on" Freddie. Like out of sight, man.

Can anyone tell me the name of the tune that the school band plays at the beginning? It's familiar, but I can't remember the title and who originally performed it.

John Hagee - Witchcraft Repackaged

John Hagee - Witchcraft Repackaged

released on VHS tape, audio ripped from VHS tape
Note: I have yet to learn how to rip video from VHS tapes. I thought the audio was interesting enough to rip to mp3 format then post here.

"Witchcraft Repackaged" is a program from John Hagee where Hagee conducts interviews with two "experts" on the occult, Robert McGee and Caryl Matrisciana, about the massive-selling Harry Potter series of novels of which I am sure almost everyone has at least heard about.
The gist of this is that the Harry Potter books are not really meant to be entertaining stories for children and teens, they are really manuals for children and teens to learn how to engage in witchcraft and get involved in the occult. I admit that I know very little about Harry Potter or have very little interest in reading the books or even watching the movie adaptations. (I should point out that I did sit through a showing on TV of some of the first Harry Potter movie some evening.) If I remember right, Hogwarts is the name of the school Harry Potter attends and Voldemort is one evil dude. Yeah, that's all I know about the Harry Potter series.

John Hagee focuses on Israel or is rather obsessed with Israel most of the time. It seems he has found some time to worry about our children possibly turning to Satanism after reading Harry Potter. Hagee seems like a reasonable guy, that is if your idea of reason is that Iran should be nuked by the US to help bring about Armageddon. I'm not going to rehash more info about Hagee. You can read this
Wikipedia article about him or visit his site.

The beginning of the tape starts with an advertisement of Hagee's series of sermons called "Invasion of Demons." Then Hagee pimps his then latest novel which he calls a "blockbuster" called "Devil's Island." After hearing his pitch for his novel, it doesn't sound appealing at all. I think I would rather read something else like say Harry Potter.

After the two advertisements, the interview with McGee and Matrisciana appears. Robert McGee is most notable for writing a book called "The Search for Significance" which is a self-help book designed to turn people with low self-esteem onto Christianity. I suppose I can see why this guy feels that the Harry Potter books are threatening.

Caryl Matrisciana is a documentary film maker and producer who considers herself an expert on the occult, paganism, and what are called "world religions" i.e. any other religion other than her's, McGee's, and Hagee's religion. Caryl's purpose in life is to obtain converts to fundamentalist Christianity by telling people that other beliefs are wrong and evil. She was born in India and surrounded by Hinduism and "eastern mysticism". Something must have happened to her for her to be bitter towards India's belief systems to the point that she describes those belief systems as cults while Christianity is not.
Her targets also include fantasy novels such as the Harry Potter series. She made a documentary with nearly the same title as the VHS tape of this post, Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged - Making Evil Look Innocent. She claims that children and teenagers are becoming pagans after reading Harry Potter. There is a
clip of this documentary on her website.

In the guise of an in-depth interview, Hagee, McGee, and Matrisciana propagandize for their religion in the form of claims that Harry Potter causes young people to try to learn spells and also claim that Rowling and Warner Brothers are attempting to indoctrinate young people into the occult.

The children and young people must be saved from the dark arts and probably brilliant displays of imagination found in Harry Potter. Why they could be seeing the light of goodness and advocating slaughter of millions of other human beings in other countries just because they don't practice the right religion instead of reading silly books like Harry Potter.

Art Wilson - The Religious Ecumenical Movement in Bible Prophecy

Art Wilson - The Religious Ecumenical Movement in Bible Prophecy

released on LP

I found a copy of this in one of the local flea markets a few months ago. I think the coolest thing about this copy is that the vinyl is red. I'm one of those people that still think colored vinyl is cool. Maybe it's because I don't often find colored vinyl in the field. I'm still trying to figure out what the cover has to do with the topic. Heck, I'm still trying to figure out what he's talking about. I think it's something about the Bible or the Book of Revelations predicting the various denominations of Christianity coming together which in turn leads to the end of the world with the Antichrist's arrival. Art Wilson seems to attempt to delve deep in what is called biblical scholarship. He never uses any pop culture references of the day or make any dumb outlandish statements about other people to make his points.

My new best friend, Bing, doesn't seem to know anything about Art Wilson. I tried my former best friend and nothing turned up. According to the back cover, Art Wilson has been the pastor at the Wichita Baptist Tabernacle for over 26 years at the time this record was released. The back cover also mentions that Art Wilson has spent many years in study of Bible prophecy and that he speaks about "Great Bible Prophecies" including the ecumenical movement or "one-world church theme". That is all I know.

Cecil Todd - Wake Up America!

Cecil Todd - Wake Up America!

released on LP in 1975 or 1976

Like Jack Van Impe and his album in the last post, America in Prophecy, which was released around the same time as this LP, Cecil Todd is predicting doom and gloom for the USA. Unlike Van Impe, Cecil Todd does not mention anything about prophecy or hope in the end.

The album's cover and back cover says that this was recorded at a patriotic rally. Cecil preached at this rally about America's possible downfall because like 19 other nations or empires that once were mighty, America will fall because of all of the decadence that is taking place. Alcoholism, gambling, wife swapping, prostitution, and other similar enjoyable activities are increasing. Cecil emphatically claims that no one cares that these activities are on the rise. Also, Cecil tries to tie these in with illegal activities which he claims are increasing too. It sounds like the things that are legal to a degree (drinking, gambling, wife swapping) should be classified as illegal in the same group as murder and robbery.

Interestingly on side 1, Cecil does not blame these things on atheists, communists, or secular socialists. He hardly mentions them on side 1. On side 2, Cecil does talk about atheists. He says that they were successful in taking religious indoctrination out of taxpayer-funded public schools. At one point, he goes into a rant because Madalyn Murray O'Hair (perhaps the most notable atheist ever) was not too happy that some astronaut read from the Bible while in outer space. He points out that those commie nations and in general foreign nations won't cause America to fall, the downfall of America is coming from within (which I do seriously agree that the downfall of America will come from within). He thinks some people "want to take God out of America" and is afraid they'll succeed. Cecil never explicitly makes the connection between atheists and those fun things like gambling, drinking, promiscuous sex, but it seems to be implied I suppose.

Because of those immoral activities and atheism, Cecil says that America will lose its freedoms. I'm not sure how American freedom would be preserved by not allowing people to do things that could be interpreted as immoral but still legal or things that preachers don't like people to do. Is that what happens in other countries that do not have freedom where people are not allowed to do certain things or participate in activities because the rulers or governments say so? I'm not exactly getting the impression that Cecil Todd really understands the principles that make America a nice place to live (compared to most other countries) then again he is another guy that thinks that the founding fathers say that America is a Christian only nation.

The end of the album has a performance of Gospel music by The Gospel Lads.

Jack Van Impe - America in Prophecy

Jack Van Impe - America in Prophecy

released on LP

The first share on this blog was an album by Jack Van Impe. I thought it would be fitting if year #4 of the Basement starts out with something by Jack Van Impe
.

On this album released probably in 1976 (notably America's bicentennial year), Jack tries to make the case that America was predicted as a political Babylon in the Bible although America is not explicitly mentioned (just as Hilton Sutton claimed that the Bible predicted important biblical events involving America). Back then, things were not so great. According to Jack, there was a rise in crimes, drug use, gambling, pornography and other immoral behavior and a decline in moral values. Naturally, the blame was placed on folks such as athiests, intellectuals, the public school system for no longer teaching religion including the Christian version of the creation story, those who create and implement sex education classes in schools, anyone who is pro-choice, anyone who accepts evolution as fact, homosexuals, and just about anyone else who doesn't agree with Jack's line of thought. Most of the time, Jack talks about how these people allegedly have contributed to America's decline.

Then comes the part that America is supposed to be in decline after all because it's predicted in the Bible. That's what Jack says. The state of the world is awful, but instead of trying to come up with ways to make the world a better place, all one has to do is wait for the Rapture. It could happen any moment now where a lot of people will be magically transported from this world full of problems to Heaven. I guess it was already supposed to happen in the 1970s if Jack's sermon is any indication. It's 2011, 35 years later, things are still not so great and still no Rapture. But it still could occur, right. I guess we have to be patient.

When the Rapture does take place, that is when the Antichrist will start to take over America and the rest of the world and rule with an iron fist for seven years. Then Christ is supposed to come back by defeating the Antichrist and his evil forces. Afterwards, the world that we know will become a blissful wonderful place free of problems such as robberies, gambling, drug use, sex education classes, etc. and likely free of those intellectuals, secular socialists, Darwinists (i.e. those who accept evolution), homos, and other undesirables. So does anyone who was raptured get to come back to Earth when Christ returns? America sounds like a depressing place to be when one listens to Jack's sermon. It sounds worse than it actually was (or is). Yet, Jack tries to be reassuring that if you're a good person, you won't have to be around when shit gets worse. Thanks Jack for another moment of terror and comfort at the same time.

John Ankerberg - The Fatal Myths of Condom-Based Sex Education

John Ankerberg - The Fatal Myths of Condom-Based Sex Education

released on cassette in 1993

I found two cassettes of this program at a local thrift store. The program on the cassettes is from the The John Ankerberg Show TV program. "The Fatal Myths of Condom-Based Sex Education" purports to explain the fallacies of sex education involving condoms and other sexual protection drawn from supposed research and wild tales of public schools encouraging promiscuity. It does not take long on the program for Ankerberg to make clear his agenda of pushing ideological fundamental Christian based abstinence-only programs in public schools. Ankerberg and his many guests including the likes of Phyllis Schlafly, D. James Kennedy, Gary Bauer, Charles Stanley, Beverly LaHaye (wife of Left Behind author Tim LaHaye), etc. assert that using condoms will still lead to dire consequences such as teenage pregnancies and death. According to them, public schools or rather every school should be teaching morality drawn from their kind of religion.

Some douchebag named Josh McDowell says on the program that people believe it is not government's or society's business what goes on with two consenting adults behind closed doors. Josh becomes indignant when he points out that these same people want the government to fund AIDS research as if it is a hypocritical thing to do. I guess that finding a cure for a deadly disease is immoral if said deadly disease is supposed to prevent teens and unmarried adults from fornicating, right. I would not be surprised if Josh is still as ignorant of AIDS today as back in 1993.

Ankerberg and his ilk contend that abstinence-only programs work the best for turning teens into responsible and moral abstinent teens. Even better is that teens become followers of Ankerberg's brand of religion and give 10% of their paycheck to their church. Anyway there is factual evidence that proves Ankerberg and his friends wrong [the two links are examples out of many more sources]. Plus check out the .pdf report "Abstinence Only vs. Comprehensive Sex Education: What Are the Arguments? What is the Evidence?" on the AIDS Research Institute website.

Informing teens, who happen to be at stages in their lives where the hormones rage the highest, about all of the options including contraceptives and abstinence along with factual information about sex is the most effective way for teens not to end up in terrible situations due to their having sex. Teens will be at least interested in sex due to the combination of raging hormones and curiosity. Why not properly educate them. Ankerberg tries to counter this fact by saying that human beings are not animals and that abstinence-only programs can control the animal urges that people do not supposedly have in the first place. Even if teens are growing up in a religious household or in religious surroundings, they'll most likely still engage in some fooling around. My friend and fellow blogger, JACkory, attended a church camp for three years while he was in high school. During the third year at church camp, his girlfriend did for him what Monica Lewinsky did for Bill Clinton. I have no doubt that stuff still takes place at church camps and church meetings around the world.

John Ankerberg is much occupied with Christian apologetics among with everything else of interest to fundies if his crammed website is any indication. According to his biography:

President and founder of The Ankerberg Theological Research Institute.
Producer and host of the nationally televised John Ankerberg Show, a half-hour program seen in all 50 states via independent stations, the DAYSTAR Network, the DISH Network, DirecTV and on the SKY ANGEL Satellite, numerous cable outlets, as well as on the internet. The program can be seen each week by a potential viewing audience in excess of 99 million people. John presents contemporary spiritual issues and defends biblical/Christian answers.
Note: The tapes have quite background noise including hissing that I was unable to get rid of. Otherwise the tapes still play and the listener can hear what is said.

A. A. Allen Miracle Revival Ministries - Crying Demons

A. A. Allen Miracle Revival Ministries - Crying Demons

*special thanks to JACkory for this

I will point out first that this is not actually the complete LP of Crying Demons. This is a 2-CD release of various stuff taken from several of A. A. Allen's LPs including the first side of Crying Demons. The rest appear to be from a series of records released on Allen's Miracle Records. There is a photo of the LPs embedded in the files which come up when I play the tracks on Windows Media Player [yeah, I know I'm lame]. A few of them involve Allen exorcising demons or the devil from people who claim to be possessed as he did on "Crying Demons". One track, "Thus Saith the Lord", is a recording of prophecies uttered where God is supposedly speaking through different people. Apparently they're possessed too, but it's by the good supernatural entity Allen worships so no exorcisms are conducted. All of the tracks were recorded at Allen's tent shows er I mean sermons he held. I wish I was alive back then to attend these events as they would have been some memorable fun entertainment. Oh well, these recordings will have to do.

This release was put out by a label called Mad Deadly Worldwide Communist Gangster Computer God (apparently inspired by Francis E. Dec). This is most likely a bootleg. There are a few used copies available by third-party sellers on
Amazon.com including a "new" copy for $77.98 as of this writing.

The Basement Has a Sponsor

A Basement of Curiosities has a sponsor. That sponsor is Terrell's Siding who is a highly reputable home improvement company specializing in siding, windows, roofing, and sunrooms. Terrell's is committed to providing the highest quality products and the finest workmanship at an affordable price. Terrell's has been proudly helping homeowners for 40 years. This company has been in existence longer than I have so that should mean something. Watch the video if you already have not done so for not one but two important messages. Not only is Terrell's the best in siding, roofing, windows, and sunrooms, but Terrell's also is the best when it comes to values. Terrell's is so highly impressive that a local TV news reporter went to visit the company's owner and was also featured on the national cable news program, The Rachel Maddow Show. Terrell's operates primarily in central Oklahoma, but you'll wish that you had Terrell's in your city or locality.

It may seem strange that my first sponsor is someone whose services I can't use yet as I do not own a home as of right now. I have been promised a large discount in the future for the home I'll eventually own in exchange for sponsorship from this fine company. Believe me, I'm going to own a large home in a gated or exclusive community because I'm on my way to being a winner. The home will have somewhere around 4 or 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen with an "island", a large living room with a large plasma TV and a large stereo, another large room for a home theater, and a double door garage. I may even buy another home or two just for the heck of it.

Enough about me, this is about the sponsor. Terrell's is committed to providing the highest quality products and the finest workmanship as well as ending secular socialism. If you need services in the areas of siding, roofing, windows, and sunrooms and stand for freedom and liberty, call or write Terrell's. If you don't live in Oklahoma and need home improvement services, move to Oklahoma.

Donice - Aerobic Celebration: Aerobic Exercise to Contemporary Christian Music

Donice - Aerobic Celebration: Aerobic Exercise to Contemporary Christian Music

LP released in 1982

This is America's first Christian aerobics LP. That's what the cover says so it must be true. As this LP's release date shows, fitness has been emphasized for quite a while in the Christian world. There are Christian programs dedicated to fitness and nutrition. There are even fitness segments on The 700 Club and fitness and wellness tips offered by Pat Robertson in between moments of calling for assassination of leaders in foreign countries and claiming that the people in earthquake ravaged nations have made a deal with Satan.

So you the visitor can use this LP to also help you get in shape and looking fit and trim with some 1980s contemporary Christian music in the background (listen to the first 24 seconds of "Highwire", it's some hot schitt, unfortunately, the rest of the song goes downhill from there) and some young lady named Donice leading. The LP came with an instruction manual with photographs.

Now for the purpose of this album's existence taken from the back cover:

WHY AN AEROBIC ALBUM FOR CHRISTIANS?

We have created an album of aerobic exercises set to Christian music for these reasons:

* because we believe that aerobic fitness is a crucial part of caring for your body, the temple of the Holy Spirit

* because we're aware that in today's world, thousands of Christians (and non-Christians) are getting involved in physical fitness activities

* because we believe that the body, through movements such as these aerobic exercies can and should be used to praise the Lord and celebrate His works

AEROBIC CELEBRATION (Aerobic Exercise To Contemporary Christian Music) provides you with about 10 minutes of warm-up activity, 21 minutes of continuous aerobics and 6 1/2 minutes of cool-down time. The first two songs, "Until He Comes" and "Nature of Love" will prepare your body for a good, hearty workout by stretching your muscles gently. The last two songs, "Angels" and "He That Overcomes," will give your body time to wind down to its natural rhythm gradually and healthily.

James Walker - Christian Science: Illusion, Confusion & Delusion

James Walker - Christian Science: Illusion, Confusion & Delusion

released on cassette

Although not credited on the tape, I recognize James Walker's voice from the other Watchman Fellowship tapes (previously posted here and here, BTW) as the man giving a long lecture about Christian Science. At the lecture, manuals were given to attendees which are referred to on this tape. I didn't find the manual, but it's probably not necessary for listening. Walker takes on the Christian Science denomination. According to Walker, Christian Science deviates from the correct belief system (i.e. the scriptures). Walker asserts that Christian Science is neither Christian nor science.

Christian Science was first articulated by Mary Baker Eddy around 1875 when she published her ideas in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. In 1879, Mary Baker Eddy founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, the formal organization of Christian Science, in Boston, Massachusetts. Basically according to the Christian Science FAQ on its website, Christian Science "is based upon a set of spiritual principles - laws relating to the nature of God and His creation - that can be applied with expected, consistent results" and it "is based on the Bible, and Christian Scientists follow the teachings and ministry of Christ Jesus. In fact, the virgin birth, the crucifixion, the resurrection and ascension of Christ Jesus, and so on, are all central to Christian Science theology." Prayer rather than remedies by modern medicine (a product of science) is usually the Christian Scientist's first choice for methods of healing. Christian Scientists claim that healing through prayer has worked for various ailments even for fixing broken bones.

The background of founder Mary Baker Eddy explains the Christian Science belief described above:

Without a doubt, the Bible was the most significant influence in Eddy’s life. She was a devoted student of the Scriptures from early childhood and gradually gained the conviction that spiritual healing was not limited to biblical times but could be practiced as effectively today. Chronically ill, she also investigated the medical systems of her time and gained insights into the mental factors of health from her study of homeopathy. For a time, her health improved under the care of Phineas P. Quimby, a self-taught healer in Maine who combined mental suggestion or hypnosis with what today might be called therapeutic touch. The improvement was not permanent, however, and she moved beyond his methods after his death in 1866. Convinced that genuine healing was rooted in God, not the human mind, she experienced a profound spiritual healing at age 44 as she read an account of Jesus’ healings. She spent the next three years of her life researching the Bible to understand how she had been healed and applying what she was learning to healing others through a system she eventually called Christian Science.

James Walker attempts to refute Christian Science beliefs and Mary Baker Eddy's ideas throughout the tape. One of the Christian Science beliefs is that evil is illusory and only good is real. Walker asserts that evil does exist especially emphasizing that Satan is alive and well. Walker implies that Christian Science has been perpetrated by demons or dark occultic forces. Despite the membership of Christian Science declining, Walker sounds alarmist over Christian Science's supposed influence in the world and asks people to "witness" to Christian Scientists to convert their beliefs to line up with Walker's beliefs and those of the Watchman Fellowship. Check out the Watchman Fellowship's perspective on Christian Science.

David Bubar - David Bubar Speaks to You

David Bubar - David Bubar Speaks to You

David Bubar was a Southern Baptist minister. Not only that, he was "a Christian clairvoyant" who is claimed to have "a gift of clairvoyance from God." Bubar founded the Spiritual Outreach Society (S.O.S.) based in Memphis, Tennessee (USA). The S.O.S. was later renamed First Century Church.

There is not any information available online about any of Bubar's LP releases or his discography. I am only aware of him releasing this album and another one called Psychic Sitting. I found a copy of the other album being sold on some online second-hand record merchant. Bubar speaks to you on this album saying you have some sort of special spiritual abilities. Bubar does not talk about psychic powers on this album though he seems to be hinting at the possibility of people possessing psychic powers. This is mostly David Bubar the Southern Baptist minister talking to you.

Back then, David Bubar has been gaining a reputation for his supposed psychic abilities as well as a spiritual advisor. The liner notes say that:

An advisor to governors, a counselor to clergymen, a personal guide to entertainment luminaries, an inspiration to space research engineers, a university lecturer, the personal friend of professionals, college students and common folk in trouble across the nation, David Noble Bubar's phone is ringing night and day.

The liner notes quote a prominent person speaking highly of David Bubar:

Charles Moeller, president of Ohio Decorative Products Corp., and Edgerton Metal Products Corporation, auto and home appliance accessories manufacturing firms, said, "We have been very fortunate since I met David ... you don't just break into the auto industry as fast and as good as we have. He seems to 'see' things." David Bubar is a member of the board of directors for Moeller, serving without pay.

David Bubar supposedly saw something or rather "got vibrations of an impending explosion." An article in Time magazine published on May 5, 1975 reported that Charles Moeller was indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiring to blow up the Sponge Rubber Products factory in Shelton, Connecticut, United States. Ohio Decorative Products Corp. was the parent company of Sponge Rubber Products.

The article further reports:

According to the indictment, Moeller paid $50,000 in company funds to David Bubar, 47, a trim, wavy-haired Baptist minister and self-proclaimed clairvoyant from Memphis who purports to have foreseen a variety of specific deaths, illnesses and other disasters. Bubar met Moeller about ten years ago, became his spiritual guru and ultimately a director of Ohio Decorative Products. He supposedly served Sponge Rubber Products as a water-purification consultant, annoying various managers by poking around the main Shelton plant unescorted and as he pleased. But the plant, so far as anyone knew, had no water problems.

Two weeks before the bombing, according to his brother John, a minister in Cheshire, Conn., Bubar "got vibrations" of an impending explosion. The Government contends that the psychic preacher indulged in a bit of self-fulfilling prophecy: Bubar allegedly paid out part of Moeller's money to Peter Betres, 54, a Butler, Pa., hotelkeeper who in turn paid off a gallery of other suspects. Thus recruited, the arson team bought dynamite, detonating material and 24 drumfuls of gasoline. Then they gathered at the plant on the day of the crime, together with Bubar, who arranged to let them in. They proceeded to blow up the factory.

Moeller was aquitted while Bubar wound up in prison. When Bubar was given a long prison sentence, the S.O.S./First Century Church did not last long.

Brother Al - Brother Al's Health and Happiness Sermons

Brother Al - Brother Al's Health and Happiness Sermons

*special thanks to KL from NYC for this one

KL says that Brother Al is the "usual used car salesman" which he is. Brother Al says that one will achieve health and happiness by reading The Bible and embracing the text contained within. Brother Al also says to write him to his Fresno, California (USA) address quite a lot. I wonder if he read every letter and answered back. Each side includes one gospel song on each side of the LP which are intermissions between the sermons. The songs should appeal to gospel fans.

The United Faith Foundation still has an address in Fresno, California at the present. The first link retrieved when I typed "united faith foundation" and "fresno" in everyone's favorite search engine is a map on Google Maps to the organization's location. Surprisingly, the United Faith Foundation does not have a website which is unbelievable in the year 2010 and free or cheap hosting by Geocities and Tripod are available along with a bunch of social media websites. It's not on Facebook. It doesn't have a blog. Not even a page on that eyesore known as MySpace. Does the United Faith Foundation know anything about the Internet? I bring this up because I want to know if Brother Al is still alive and to find out what it's up to today.
I suppose that it would prefer you still write to them at their Fresno, California address instead of e-mailing them.

Here's their address if you want health and happiness or to find out if Brother Al is still alive:

1921 East Belmont Avenue
Fresno, CA 93761

Gertrude Behanna - God Isn't Dead

Gertrude Behanna - God Isn't Dead

released on LP

In the area where I live, a copy of this recording can often be found in thrift stores. I almost see as many copies of this as Barbara Streisand, Mantovani, or those Firestone Christmas albums (all guaranteed to make one's thrift store browsing experiences depressing). The copies of God Isn't Dead are usually beat-up or worn. I wasn't sure if I really wanted this anyway.

Earlier in the year at the annual library sale, I spotted a copy in very good condition and finally gave in. I bought a copy. The cover was in very good condition, however the condition of the LP itself was only in good condition.

Gertrude Behanna was among the small percentage of humans in the world who was wealthy because she was fortunate to be born to wealthy parents. That does not mean she was happy throughout her life of glamour, not having to do any actual work, and having a near unlimited amount of money to spend. She lived a life of misery. She was an alcoholic and drug addict who had three marriages that were disastrous. Something tells me her misery was mostly caused by Gertrude herself although her family situation was not exactly wonderful. At one point in her life, Gertrude was not feeling well physically and mentally. Her physician recommended that Gertrude seek psychiatric help. Instead, Gertrude decided to seek out Jesus.

Apparently, it worked out for her according to the liner notes: At age 53 she discovered that God was not dead ... that through the miracle of Christ's divine love and power ... drugs, liquor and despair itself could be conquered. Her health regained, she has spent the past 15 years touring the country, telling her story, giving hope and encouragement to thousands in all walks of life.

Gertrude wrote an autobiography, The Late Liz, that was supposedly a best-seller plus she recorded this record of confessions and testimony.

A. A. Allen - Did God Call the Apostle Paul to Preach the Gospel to the Black Man?

A. A. Allen - Did God Call the Apostle Paul to Preach the Gospel to the Black Man?

*special thanks to jay strange for sharing this one too

What is little known is that A. A. Allen was one of the few preachers who welcomed both black and white people into his sermons during the time of segregation in America (separate schools, bathrooms, water fountains, etc. for black and white people) when even the churches were segregated as most preachers back then did not encourage integration. As crazy as A. A. Allen was, A. A. Allen was an advocate of equality although Allen was most focused on winning souls rather than marching in the streets.

Allen brought black and white people in the same tent when some prejudiced white people did not even want to worship in the same room as black people or get baptized in the same fountain as black people. Allen's message is integration on this album. His message is based on his claim that God told his apostle Paul to preach to black people. So what Allen is implying is that God may have only talked to white people and God has not talked to any black people. If skin color does not really matter to God, why was God not calling upon any black people to preach the gospel?

The liner notes from the cover say: A. A. Allen is no doubt the first evangelist on a great national or international scale to preach integration to huge crowds in the north and the south to both the black and the white and to be successful in integrating multitudes in worship in his huge tent and auditorium campaigns. Allen declares, with God and in his campaigns there are no social or racial barriers. The Allen campaigns are for all people of all churches. Possibly, Allen's campaigns and his preaching have done more to make all people "one" than any other single effort in the nation or world. In Allen's campaigns, thousands sing, shout, worship God and are all baptized together in the huge Baptistry.

More notes:

The song "Every Man Has Got to Be Born Again" appears on side 2. Song written by Richard Littlejohn. Song performed by Gene Martin, Richard Littlejohn, Judy Blocksom, and Trinity Faith Tabernacle Choir (Toledo, Ohio, USA).

A. A. Allen - God is a Killer

A. A. Allen - God is a Killer

*special thanks to jay strange for providing this LP, you can visit him at ART INTO DUST or his numerous other blogs

I am not a big Ten Commandments guy. I do not think they should be posted on taxpayer funded public buildings or public property. I certainly do not agree with all of them. There is one commandment I do endorse and that is the one that says "You shall not murder."

So it was God who wrote the Ten Commandments, so does God not have to obey his own commandments? Does God have a right to take life as he pleases? Preacher A. A. Allen depicts God's acts of murder. Allen does not sound like he has a problem with God disobeying one of his own commandments. Allen seems to delight in scaring his own audience in telling them God will kill then send em to hell if they do not want to be saved. Allen seems to delight even more in God's murderous exploits. That's the impression I get anyway.

The liner notes from the LP tell who is A. A. Allen so I'll post a few tidbits from those liner notes:

* He is one of ten most influential ministers in the world today.

* He is the author of more than fifty books, covering every phase of faith - Christian living - healing - demonology.

* News headline of The Atlanta Constitution, dated May 5, 1969, "The Hottest Faith Healer in America Since Oral Roberts Went and Joined the Methodist Church."

* According to TIME Magazine in an article dated March 7, 1969, this evangelist is probably the best known so-called "Faith Healer" in the nation today.

[nice to know the mainstream media in 1969 was keeping up with faith healers. I wonder if The Atlanta Constitution or TIME Magazine had a hottest 20 faith healers list.]

* He is a man who fasted and prayed until he met God, and received power and authority over all sickness and to cast out devils. A recognized authority on demon oppression and possession. He is said to have cast out more demons than any other minister in the world today.

* Many times, thousands answer a single altar call following Rev. Allen's preaching. It has been safely estimated that in the extremely close schedule (almost nightly) more sinners are genuinely born again in his services than in any other campaigns in the world.

* A. A. Allen is Founder and President of Miracle Valley Bible College in Miracle Valley, Arizona, and of Miracle Revival Bible College in the Philippines.

* He is one of the few preachers to ever leave organized denomination and continue to be successful in an international ministry as an independent or undenominational minister, exposing the sins of denomination.

* He is no doubt the first evangelist on a national and international scale to preach integration to mixed multitudes in both North and South, and be successful in integrating the races in worship under his huge gospel tent. It has been declared by leaders that the Allen Campaigns and his preaching have done more to make all people "one" than any other single effort in the nation or world. Believers worship, sing, shout together, and all new converts are baptized in the huge baptistry under the tent.

[another Allen LP preaching about integration coming shortly]

Those credentials do sound impressive. Unfortunately, on June 11, 1970 in San Francisco, California (USA), Allen died from liver failure caused by alcoholism.

Bob Harrington - The Second Coming of Christ

Bob Harrington - The Second Coming of Christ

A lot of people say that Christ is coming back soon. Their claim tends to be dismissed by yours truly. It's not like they have much evidence or any evidence that he is coming back to our world. Maybe some people have insider connections with the other side who may know if and when Mr. Christ is coming and when the plan gets underway to liberate the good people from this world headed for mayhem and chaos. I haven't seen any rumors or revelations from those in the know being reported in the mainstream media including TMZ, Fox News, and the National Enquirer. I'm really not losing any sleep over the possibility of being left behind.

Then I come across this. If even the Chaplain of Bourbon Street says that the savior is returning to Earth and The Rapture is about to occur, then I urge you to better start taking things more seriously. Perhaps Christ will shut down all the strip clubs and porno theaters for Mr. Harrington. I hope that there is an apostle on staff who is an IT or computer expert to advise Christ on current technology so he can shut down the millions of Internet porno sites too. Technology has vastly expanded over the past 2000 years, ya know. He will need to be caught up quickly and have basic computer and Internet skills if he is going to take over the world. At least he should know that the Internet is not just a series of tubes. Hopefully, even with all the porno sites gone, Christ will be in favor of net neutrality.
